RR caliper sticking on 2010 fusion

So we went to go vist my grandmother in the nursing home tonight and once we got there u could just smell this nasty brake smell. My mom said it was coming from her side on tht RR. the wheel was hot to touch and u could smell the smell coming from there.

Drove it home and wheel temp is normal but smell is still there. Lift the rear wheels up one by one and spin them and the RR is dragging and the LR spins freely.

Mom is afraid to drive it so shes gonna take my malibu to work tomorrow and i get to replace the RR caliper and hose in the morning (actuated caliper) then go into work. Already told my manager i was gonna be late.

We bought the car last sept with 93k and just rolled over 99k today and when we bought it i put 4 new pads and rotors on it.

That's not unusual for that age and mileage if the proper care hasn't been taken.
I clean and lube my slides every year.

I replaced the original front calipers on my 96 Saturn in 2014. One was still good, the other finally gave up. (I live in the salt belt too)

We're the second owner. And the first one didn't take much care of it. It has a bunch of surface rust on it especially on the rear.

If you have rubber jackets on its sliding pins.....throw it off the sliding pins....OR buy new sliding pins!

With time ( and with inproper grease too) that rubber got swollen.....and that causes sticky calipers

Buy a can of ceramic grease (in spray can)......lift that rubber protection around braking pistons.....get rid of rust underneath it.....and spray a little of that ceramic grease underneath that rubber for protection....

You can also use copper grease instead......I know that it is popular in US of A......BUT It might interfere with ABS sensors ( tiny copper particles vs sensitive ABS sensor(s) )

Well got to take the tire off this morning and noticed a slider was frozen in the bracket. I got it out barley and no one in town had a bracket till mid next week. So i just ended up replacing the caliper with the bracket and the hose since i had already spent 40 mins hunting the hose down.

What is bracket in this case?

I dont understan all termins here! If pad is too stiff in caliper....grind its "ears" a little bit...so that it will have just a little play inside caliper...

Caliper bracket where the slide pins are and the brake pads sit.

Did my BILs fusion brakes. Junky design. Same era/ mileage.

The pad ears all needed significant grinding to fit, in addition to other maladies.

They cheaped out.

Pedal feels great though when it's all together right.
