Vehicle: 2011 Jeep Patriot 4WD
Engine: 2.4L 4 cyl
Miles On Engine @ Time Of OC: 19836
Miles On Oil: 6650 miles
Time On Oil: 7 Months

Oil Used: Royal Purple 5W20 API SN
Oil Filter Used: Royal Purple 10-48
Make Up Oil Added: None

Usage Notes: Quite a bit of towing to the vehicle's maximum towing weight capacity. It is only rated to tow 2,000lbs and I did quite a bit in the 1700-1900lbs range during this OCI. Also had a 700+ mile road trip in there back in March too.

I think this is a pretty good UOA. If I didn't have warranty to worry about I would definitely take it out to the 9K they said to try if not 10K.

Thanks for posting this up!

Not a problem. Good to have at least one UOA of the new RP up. Now I am just waiting for the...

"you paid too much for the oil"
"$0.99 oil could do that"
"you should use M1/PP/PU/QSUD/etc..."

...and so on.

We know it is coming. Someone will have to try and poo-poo all over it because it is RP.

I could do the same with $.99/gallon SAE30...

Nice report. That 2.4L is a great engine. Almost wish I had one for my buggy project instead of a 2.5L. It would make adding a turbo much easier!

It's good that RP offers an SN variety oil for those of us with warranties to maintain. If I were to use RP, it would be the HPS line, I just love Moly in oil

BTW, the Jeeps UOA is looking good.

Looking good but I dont know about extending the OCI by 35% with a TBN of 2.2

Great report. Strong ending visc, tbn, solid FP, low insols. This is what we all hope for in our UOAs.

Wow fantastic low wear numbers for such low miles. Looks like its gonna be a great low wearing engine. Thanks for posting this UOA on your JEEP.

Oh man I didn't even think of that. Now I will get flak because I use RP and because my JEEP is not a REAL JEEP!

Looks good. I guess the API stuff isn't watered down nor does it seem to be weak in any way. I'm glad you did this NHHEMI. I doubt its gonna change much, haters gonna hate but at least we've got a data point to consider now instead of conjecture and assumptions.

Thanks for posting.

I think I might have been the first in the epic RP thread to suggest that you do a UOA of this oil.
You have and it looks very nice.
The oil retained its viscosity well.
TBN is a little low for the mles run, but since depletion isn't linear, this oil might have been good for another couple of thousand miles.
Insolubles are really low and that isn't just because the oil filter did a good job.
Wear metals are nice except for iron, which seems disproportionatly high.
With slightly high iron and silicon, you might want to look for an intake air leak.
The hard way would be visiual inspection.
The easy way would be to use a spray can of carb cleaner.
You've shown RP SN to be as good as any other SN oil we've seen UOAs of here.

The air intake system is kind of goofy and I think it lets a lot of dirt in? I think that may be behind the somewhat high silicon count but? I need to check the AF again.

Nice report, especially for towing near the max capacity.

Does your Patriot have an automatic trans? If so I'd consider adding a transmission cooler just to be on the safe side.

Its a shame Jeep is getting rid of the Patriot, they are a nice looking vehicle.
