Here is my same of RP 5w20 with 5600 miles AND 113 hours on the oil.
I'm unsure of the results. Iron cut in have but AL went up..The Silcone was from a dielectric grease I used on the AF lip..It turned to powder..NEVER again will I use a SI based grease..
Would you say, since the FE cut in half the 5w20 did better job of protecting than 5w30?

I doubt many folks are going to bother doing a bunch of searching and then try to dissect that hard-to-read info you have posted. Why not dig up your old uoa yourself and post it beside your new one in a manner easier to digest for the reader? I bet you'll get a lot more opinion and information that way, if you truly are wanting some interaction.

:-)

Here it is again: 5w20 on top, 5w30 on bottom
Wear Metals (ppm)

These oils dont look like they are from the same product line. The 5W20 looks like a SL compliant street oil where as the 5W30 looks like a high detergent off-road oil.

Dear GOD,
There is a lot of "bickering" tonight. Usually you guys are welcoming and helpful. Tonight its just a gripe fest.
Guess I'm going to re-post it tomorrow. Then maybe I will get constructive replies!

No, but he did

Both look good and both have crazy high detergent additives. The 5w30 had a crazy high ZDDP dose. What API specs did these oils have on the bottles?

Jag,
Both of them were SL spec. I have about 30Qts of 5w20SL and 10qts of 5w30SL left. Is it me or does the Additive package for the 5w20 look weaker than 5w30, but both have even wear.
Dusty

That's quite the stash! Yes the 5W-20 has less boron and ZDDP (Zn, P) but too much ZDDP can actually cause pitting. There probably are other API SL RP 5w30 UOAs or VOAs and it would be good to see if the have similar Zn and P concentrations. Maybe you should mix your oils 3:1 ratio of 5W-20 to 5w30.

RP SL (the RP I'd used was SJ) looks to be some REALLY good oil! Lots of zddp and moly. Dunno about the new formula stuff though. I wouldnt waste my money on the RP SN,I'd look for some nos SJ,SL,SM or get the new HPS which isn't watered down (all the goodies taken out of it).

Your report look great!

What kind of car/engine did this come out of?

Dr Dusty- I almost posted something on the 24th but didn't want to pile on. My comments are intended to be helpful but you may feel Gripe-Fested again. You have made it pretty hard for us to help you.

1) I have used the same RP SL 5W20 you used here and it was great stuff. I made a 10K run on it and could have gone farther.

2) Your info didn't include the most useful information in the UOA... viscosity, flash point, TBN and insolubles. Other important info, if you want people to offer opinions, is the vehicle, engine, miles on vehicle, miles on oil and the operational situation (e.g. short hopper, long hauler, etc.)

3) Finally, you can't draw any conclusions on wear from two UOAs. 10 or 20... maybe (you will get arguments about that even) and that's 10-20 on each oil you want to compare, taking care to eliminate all the variables that might influence the results. A few more cold starts, a week of short hops and many other things can add or subtract metals from the oil so any conclusions drawn from contrasting these two will be erroneous and could lead you down the wrong path. Not to mention going from one oil to another. You need at least two runs on a particular oil to get a "clean" result... there is always some of the old oil left in the engine that will skew the results.
