All of the BMW/Mini approved oils on the 2007 and newer models (with the turbo) are LL04 rated, and all are 5W30 except the Mobil 1 which is 0W40.
The 2000-2006 models (supercharged) specified 0W30 or 5W40 LL01 rated oil.
I have driven 500 miles since the oil change and peered down the valve cover and it looks much cleaner already. It looks pretty darn good, I just want "better." Also, I have noticed that the fan doesn't run nearly as long after a highway run. Could the engine actually be running cooler? No temp gauge, sorry.
Also, BMW/Mini have backed up a bit, they have recently changed the OCI from 15K miles to 10K.
Even without the turbo, no way would I do an extended OCI on this car. The cartridge oil filter insert is tiny- it looks like it belongs on a riding mower.
