I have a 90HP V-4 Suzuki on a 17' alum. boat. This dual carb engine detests idleing or trolling. I purchased this new Jan 96 and have 764 hours on the engine hour meter today with 0 repairs. I started using Itasca Synthetic since new, then Pennzoil Synthetic, and then Amsoil AIO. All of these oils were great with no problems. Then I had a bad hair day and bought a case of another brand, not synthetic. Wrong decision, the engine started to carbon and very rough idle to stalling constantly. Being the cheap dude I am at the wrong time, I used the whole case.
I purchased a case, (4 Gallons) of Royal Purple Synthetic 2-Cycle oil. After the first gallon was used I pulled the same spark plugs and they had light, soft, wet residue on the outer edge of the plug which is normal. The white ceramic and electrode was 100% tan/brown with no residue in the cavity. I scraped a piston crown lightly and shiney metal and no build-up at all. A microscopic film of grey/black from idleing at the ramp and loading is the only thing that kept me from seeing pure metal.
This engine now only sees Royal Purple 2-cycle for oil, Royal Purple lower unit oil and Royal Purple grease. The combination is working.
Also I do use 1/2 ounce of Fuel Power in the fuel to 5 gallons and 1 ounce of LC to each gallon of oil. Had to clean up the mess I made with the off-brand. So this combination seems to work very well also.
