Sorry if this is re hashing an old subject. Quality of filter an capturing contaminates without sacrificing flow rates I’m kinda torn between these filters..it seems quality products is such a hit or miss these day’s or maybe I’ve been researching this topic way to long..both filters seem to have good build quality but is flow rate and the ability to capture an contain contamination better in one of the two filters?

I prefer Royal Purple filters. They're $12,99 from Summit Racing. If I don't get those then I get Fram Ultra from WalMart.

RoyalPurple is full synthetic media.

Mobil1 is NOT a full synthetic media. Why pay extra for cellulose blend filtration???

Use the RoyalPurple, Amsoil, Napa Platinum, WixXP, Fram Ultra, or Purolator Boss filter.

When M1 comes out with a filter with full synth media, I will recommend them. Until then, they are the marketing master selling a filter at high profit margins.

Ability to “capture and contain contamination” is related to the filtering efficiency of the filter. What is that for the two you’re considering?

I read somewhere that there is actually some benefit to a blend as the non synthetic media can absorb at the same time that the synthetic media traps. Theory? Marketing hype?

Absorb is not a good filter property in full flow filters. It essential expands the cellulose and restricts flow. Cellulose is treated with resins to avoid absorbing. The only benefit to cellulose is that it is a cheap fiber.

Cellulose is obsolete. Just use a full synthetic oil filter if you are paying for a premium filter.

Supertech or Fram ExtraGuard.... vs Mobil1... I wouldn't bother with Mobil1.

If it's not a race car, then no need to bother. Either will work fine, although too pricey for me. Proper maintenance is 1000x more important than type of oil and/or filter.

Why not just get the Fram Ultra from Wal-Mart? its readily available well built great filtration syn media and you don't have to worry about ordering on line

Purolator Boss has one of the lowest efficiency ratings on the market at 20 microns.

And still better than the OE filters I've used in my Toyotas, Lexi, Kias, Hyundais,.... and anyone want to wager the Mahle/Mannhumel filters in my VAG products. Give you a little hint, many filters, especially from Europe, have even worse efficiency. But, the fanboys use them because they look the best.

I'll take that Boss over any OE spec'd Mahle, Hengst, or MH.

Speaking of MH, they recently release full synthetic media filters for some VAG products. They must've learned something from their Wix/Purolator acquisitions.
