I emailed Royal Purple because I wanted to check with them before going conventional on my new car and was surprised to get this response:

"Currently there are two versions of the Royal Purple SAE 5W-20 API street oils in circulation the older API-SL formulation and the newer API-SN formulation. If you pick up the later Royal Purple SAE 5W-20 (part #01520, quart bottle) API-SN oil you will have the latest and most current API version of the Royal Purple oils. Chrysler cannot void your warranty in the USA, for not using their oil, if you are using a current API-SN / GF-5 specification Royal Purple 5W-20 oil. The Royal Purple 5W-20 oils you find on the shelf all should have the API starburst seal.
The back label of the new bottle should have the information on it that you desire to show to your dealer for warranty compliance. If you periodically check on our website in the coming weeks, the product data sheet will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Thank you for choosing Royal Purple and have a great day!"

Cool. I've always wanted to give Royal Purple a try...

yes. My local Walmart has the "new" Royal Purple in stock in the 5w30 flavor.....they redesigned the label AND the bottle, the bottle appears to be a little more sturdy/duable, with a larger "mouth"

But eh, I drive a classic, kind of leary on putting the "SN" in there.....should have picked up the "SL" while they had it

The shelves ARE still full of the 10w30 "SL" though.....

And yes, the 5w30 has the dexos logo as well...hehe.

Why would you question their answer? They said it was certified and it took all of ten seconds to look this up:

Royal Purple’s API licensed motor oil delivers superior protection and improves performance in gasoline and diesel engines. Royal Purple’s API SN licensed motor oil meets ILSAC GF-5 and Dexos1™1 performance requirements.

I was unsure because I could only find information about the old SL cert., so I e-mailed them. This was news to me.

Wonder why the oil is on the shelf before the Product Data Sheet is available? You would think they would know what's in it before they start selling it.

That's good to know.

To NHHEMI: I see you have a 2.4L Patriot and are a Royal purple user. Doe you use RP in the Jeep? What type of OCI do you go with if you do? I have the same engine in my 200.

It is available. It's just hard to find. I've stumbled upon it once or twice, as have others users here.

My Jeep is only a month old. Haven't made the swap to RP yet. I will swap to the new SN formula 5W-20 here in a bit. I will do 5K OCI's.

It's weird. The Product Data sheets for the new oils was there not too long after they came out but they are now gone again?

I'm not sure. I was able to find them shortly after they came out, and then not so long ago either. However, I wasn't actually able to find them on the site. I used Google each time I wanted to see them, and found them no problem. They were hosted on the Royal Purple site, of course.

Exxon-Mobil keeps obsolete sheets side by side with current ones. SOPUS has no idea which product name to put on each sheet. BP uses minimum values rather than test data. RP buries their sheets so that only a search engine can find them.

Yeah, if I decide to go synthetic I'm probably going to go with Royal Purple now that I know this. Probably do 5-6k OCI with the Mopar filter.

Well, I already went after SOPUS, and still have to do some follow up. If you're willing to tackle Exxon-Mobil, all we have to do is find a sucker to take on the BP project.
