I have a D-Link DIR-655 and I have to reboot my router every week since I've changed my ISP. It would get slow until it completely stops, ie DHCP server not issuing IP address, going to the router's built in website not working... Is there a conflict between the modem and router or dlink makes a bunk product, etc.

Try updating the Firmware... Although D-LINK generally isn't the greatest IMO. You might need a replacement.
Sometimes this is caused by an address buffer that doesn't roll off. I had an actiontek (WHICH SUCK) that had the same problem. Turned out, to get it to work I had to telnet into the router and type a few commands that would set a maximum size for the buffer. If I didn't, it would just eat up all the memory the router had and it would freeze. That router ran BusyBox, if I remember. I wish I could tell you what the commands were, but I found them online somewhere and the peice of paper they were written on was underneath the router, which has long since been thrown out and replaced.

I'm using a DIR-655. It gets pretty heavy usage and I think I rebooted it a couple of months ago. Which firmware revision are you using? Mine is running 1.20NA. If you upgrade the firmware, do it from a wired/ethernet connection.
I remember its DNS being rather flaky until I turned off the worthless "securespot" service that was turned on by default.

I was having disconnect problems with firmware version 1.32NA and the following cleared them up completely ... might be worth a try:
Under Advanced --> QOS engine --> QOS engine setup:
Uncheck Dynamic Fragmentation
Under Advanced --> Advanced Wireless -->Advanced Wireless Settings:
Uncheck Short GI
Under Advanced --> Wi-Fi Protected Setup:
Uncheck enable
Under Advanced --> Secure Spot:
Uncheck Enable Securespot services
Under Setup --> Internet --> Manual Internet Connection Setup:
Uncheck Enable Advanced DNS Service
Under Setup --> Network Settings --> Router Settings:
Uncheck Enable DNS Relay
Under Setup --> Network Settings --> DHCP Server Settings:
Check Always Broadcast
Under Setup --> Wireless Settings --> Manual Wireless Network Setup:
Set 802.11 Mode to Mixed n,g,b
Check Enable Auto Channel Scan

Set Visibility Status to visible
