Rotella T5 10w30 question

Is this a good all-season oil for small air cooled engines that call for straight 30 in warm weather and 10w30 in cold?

IMO, yes. I have long used the Rotella TP 10W30 that way and have begun switching over to the T5 (one oil for all my cars, gas & diesel trucks, diesel tractors and small gas engines). As was said above, it's very shear resistant and fuel dilution resistant too. It has very strong oxidative resistance as well.

I have been switching all my small engines over to T5, it's my understanding that air cooled engines love HDEO, My garden tractor (kohler command) loves the stuff

What about the cool end performance? Does anyone have the numbers that would compare Pennzoil YB PCMO 10W30 vs. T5? And, could you interpret the numbers in winter use conditions, maybe down to 5 to 32 degrees F. In other words, would there be a significant loss of winter (starting) use of T5 vs YB 10W30? I would really like to see some numbers, instead of just opinion.

Thanks.

Well the CCV (aka Dynamic Viscosity under ASTM5293) of the T5 is 6000 mPas @ -25C. I'll leave it to you to the legwork on the PYB and find that specification... DoitYourself ( : < )

Another question. I know t5 have over 1000 zddp. I just wonder zddp decrease over time when oil get old. Or it stay the same ? Thx

Effectiveness decreases because TAN increases/along with TBN depletion. The add pack isn't 'changing' in terms of ppm, but actual effectiveness in the environment the engine goes through from fresh oil to end of OCI.

There is a 'sweet spot', changing too often not worth it, but changing before depletion, etc.

If you are wanting zinc, the oils with it are solid.

my engine is alot quiet after flush that [censored] muddy mos2 out. and replace with T5 10w30 mabe Next oil change I properly switch to T6 5w40 and add nothing. thanks every one.

^Thanks for sharing your experience.

The LubroMoly MoS2 product may not be for your engine. Someone recently posted they had problems with it and changed the oil right away, and it was deduced the reason was because part of their engine design, since MoS2 attaches itself mainly to benefit certain parts(or settles of the bottom of the oil pan)

x2. I tried MoS2 in my 4.0L and didn't notice anything different. My friend tried it in his Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 and it was noticeably quieter.

It loves it? Did your kohler command tell you?

yeah over and over....
it runs smoother, starts easier, got rid of what seemed to be a minor tick.
