I just picked up a qt of RT HD 30 and I am interested if this is okay for a typical push lawn mower (6 hp B&S engine). My last oci was with B&S oil but I am not willing to pay the high $ for 18 oz again. I have seen Pennzoil's small 4 cycle engine oil in AAP but I couldn't pass up the $1.75 for the qt of RT. This was the only 30 wt in AAP that was diesel rated. Should I return it?

Thanks.

Yep, for a straight 30 weight, you'll be hard pressed to find a better one. Likewise, Chevron Delo400 straight 30 and Pennzoil Long Life straight 30 would be similarly excellent.

I wouldn't pay the extra

for B&S branded oil. It's likely a cheap oil (Group I or maybe II) with a little extra ZDDP thrown in. That's about all.

Rotella T and Delo 400 SAE 30 are top-shelf oils. All bickering aside, a B&S will run forever on the stuff.

I wanted to give everyone an update.

I changed the lawn mower oil last week and it was clean and clear; no silver soup! Not bad for weekly 45 min use in the south (Mar to Nov). This is very different from past OC's and lawn mowers I have had running on B&S oil or PCMO HD oils in both the south and northeast. I am sold on Rotella HD 30. The only problem is that I stopped by the AAP where I bought it the last time to get a qt for my stock and found they no longer carry it; luckily I had the remaining 1/2 qt from last year for the OC.

Three other places to look: Tractor Supply Company, Napa, or Walmart...you might ask if they can order a case of the Rotella SAE30 in at AAP.

Another option would be 15w40 rotella...I've used it with very good results in my lawn mowers, plus its easier to get.

Absolutely not.
Had I known about Rotella 30 wt. years ago perhaps my lightly used 16HP Briggs wouldn't be in need of a rebuild right now.

Anyway, Briggs doesn't manufacture their own oil. It could be made any number of different suppliers and sold in a Briggs bottle with big price mark up.

(By the way, Walmart and AutoZone sell Rotella 30wt. in 1 gal. jugs.)

Stopped by a local AZ store and notice a 1 gal Delo 400 SAE 30 bottle on the top shelf. When I asked for a price check the store clerk took a couple seconds after scanning it to say it was $1.99!! While I was paying for it he said it scanned for $0.01 and said he had to charge $1.88 + tax. I'll stop by later and see if there is another and just buy it to see what it rings up at.

I'm set for a long time for lawn mower OC's.

I can't imagine you'll notice a difference between these 30 weight HDEOs.

That's a cool find! Nothing like a great deal like that to make your day.
