Rotella Synth (5W-40) in Ford 460 Motor

I have a 1991 F250 with the 460 gas motor and wonder if I can switch to Rotella T-Synthetic. motor oil with any problems?

I have 80,000 on the motor and it has always had conventional 10w30 oil and would like to switch to Rotella T-Synthetic (5W-40) due to better winter starting and better hot weather protection.

I use Rotella-Synthetic in my diesel Excursion and would like to use the same in my F250.

Do I worry about seals leaking in a 1991 with 80,000 miles? Will the very large 460 motor benefit from a 40 weight oil in the summer?

What are the pros and cons to my question?

If you already stock rotella syn 5w-40 for your other truck, it seems like a logical choice...

Im sure in the "old days" that many a 460 got a long, hard-working life running on conventional 10w40 oil. The rotella is much better.

I assume the engine is usually low-rpm, heavily loaded, right? If so, Id venture to say that the rotella will provide a bit more protection for you.

Does the3 owners manual only suggest a 10w30 or what will it allow? THough I doubt it will explicitly say 5w-40, I think its a logical choice, and Id use it without thinking twice!

I have an '83 F250 with a 460 in it. I've run Rotella 5W-40 in it, and it ran great.

If I had a gasser fullsize like the old '79 Chevy 350 3/4 ton, I'd use Rotella 5w-40 in it in a heartbeat. Always used 10w-40 Havoline in it - in the cold winters, the 5w would've been nice.

I use the 5w-40 Rotella in a 3.2L V6 engine with great results, switched to it at 139K miles - have yet to do a used oil analysis on it, but the truck runs smooth and quiet, and hits higher RPM's just fine when I need it to.

This truck ran on 10w30 Havoline dino for it's first 139k miles.

Have no leaks on this truck - but it is all aluminum, heads and block.

My only concern was if the diesel formulated oil hurt the CAT or leak around the seals and gaskets?

The manual says 10w30... but hopefully 5W-40 will be ok in such a large motor and one used for towing?

I use a 50/50 mix of Rotella 5W40 and 15W40 in my '92 E350 with a 460EFI. It runs like a top with it so far.

Good specs according to your sheet there.

I called my Chevron Jobber to inquire but they don't carry it :-(
