Rotella 15w40 for the Neon

As our 03 Neon ages I am thinking about switching it from Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 over to Rotella 15w40. Cold temps aren't a concern here in Mobile so I could use it all year around. Eventualy I would like to move everything I own to Rotella if possible. Do you guys think the Rotella would be too thick and cause valvetrain wear?

why go higher with a NEON? the engine doesn't need that thick oil

it's known that Neon's engine burns oil but i am pretty sure the Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 should do a good job in ur Neon, if you make a switch u will experience about 10-15% decrese in MPG

Pennzoil Platinum is already good, unless ur car is burning a qt of oil every week then i don't recommend the switch

Nope, no oil usage at all. I believe the transmission will be the death of this car anyway.

I see no reason to go heavy with this/these engines. One member, bullwinkle (IIRC), did the most torturous endurance test I can imagine (towing with a NEON) and did it with a 5w-20

He had a wonderful UOA.

The death may be driving too long on HOT - with an intake or head gasket overheat. It's a common problem with many Neons.

10W-30 is all you need -- even if you lived in Texas.

It's interesting that you suspect a thicker oil would cause an increase in valvetrain wear when usually the opposite is true.

You could always go with the Rotella T Synthetic. It's a 5W40, and is very inexpensive for a synthetic. Gallon jugs sell for $16.49 at the Walmarts in my area. You'd get the same operating viscosity, with better cranking/pumping viscosity. Plus, you could increase your OCIs with the synthetic. Just a thought.
