Would running Rotella t5 10w30 be just as good as running a synthetic like m1 or Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra for a 5K interval in severe service driving?
Just wondering as far as preventing sludge. I would be using in a 1997 dodge 5.2. I drive 10k a year but the drive home from work is very short, less than a mile but I can't walk because it is a busy road.
The truck normally gets up to operating temp during the day because I usually do errands before I get to work and have completely warmed the oil up before I get in. Thanks.

I'm sure 5k is no problem on T5. HDEO's are made better than PCMO's so it will be able to work in that application.

Funny thing is my next motor oil for my car is T5. I am currently using PU and have no doubt the performance will be the same or better.

My gut agrees with you, but I don't really have any proof HDEO dino is much better the PCMO synthetic. I ran Rotella T 15W40 for 8 or 9K miles in my Neon this summer and it looked and poured "used" when I changed it out, but without an UOA who knows what condition it was in.

Just to be clear Rotella T5 10w30 is a synthetic blend.

I just assume synthetic blend means its 99% dino anyways but with this 10W30 and especially their 0W30, that assumption maybe wrong.

5k interval, you can use dino even for severe. T5 is an HDEO and a Syn Blend to boot so you're still doing way better than needed

I think it's a moot point. The T5 ain't selling at China Mart so they back-flushed the price and it still ain't selling. Too many owners still think you need a 15W40 in a diesel. China-Mart will not stock it if it does not meet their sales goals.

My used oil analysis were better with Rotella T 10w30 than with the following oils. I've used it quite a bit in my Roadmaster Wagon's 5.7L V8. I have not used the newer T5 version. I've got PU in it now and am debating going to the T5 or T6 for the next run.

Valvoline 5w30 conventional (slightly elevated lead)
Syntec GC 0w30 (high lead)
Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 (longer run, hard to compare but lead was higher)
