Roman from TFLEV has a meltdown trying to road trip their new VW I.D. Buzz

Feels setup that hotel did not have proper chargers so we spend next day searching for one on low charge. Reality TV or internet content …..

I believe VW is joining the Tesla network soon so many of these woes disappear.

But yet-the boards are full of those who have taken their Teslas on cross country trips.

One thing that stood out to me on the trip was just how sparsely used the Superchargers were in many locations. On multiple charging stops, I had the entire Supercharger station — sometimes up to 15 charging stalls or more — to myself. EV critics like to complain about “insufficient infrastructure” for long distance trips in EVs, but that was not my experience on this trip or others in a Tesla. Other than that little charging glitch in Illinois, the Navigation system took me to each charging stop with plenty of power to spare. And I never had to drive more than a couple of miles off the highway in order to reach a Supercharger.

Taking a Tesla on a long trip is quite different than an EV that doesn't use Superchargers. The limiting factor is whether they're magic dock equipped for CCS vehicles. I don't think you can use an aftermarket adapter on a Supercharger, so they'd be stuck with other options. Can it be done? Sure. Do I want to do it? Heck no. If I'm going to do it though I'll do it in a Tesla. I have no interest in toying with it otherwise. I've seen plenty of videos of long EV trips and it looks like trying to use non Tesla chargers equals a hit and miss headache.

Did you read my above post?
He specifically said CCS which is what I mentioned to you above.

I'd really like to see them put their effort in Electrify America into converting to NACS as well and in a magic dock like setup to cover as many vehicles as possible. I'd still prefer to just use a Supercharger, but more options aren't a bad thing.

He paid $72K for that?? I hope he's making a lot of money on his YT videos!!
He also has 3 websites as well. I interviewed for an internship with him in my last semester of college. He hired his son. Nathan Adlan that works with him is a real down to earth guy. I met him at the Denver Auto Show years ago.

They just hired a woman who worked for Tesla and owned body shops or something.

Feel the same about the rest of TFL content?
Sometimes as it’s much more interesting to watch and get views. Taint the scenario or pick absolute worst condition and then attempt something.

I like Nathan a lot, for a while he disappeared, I was glad to see him come back.

It took me a while to warm up to Tommy as nepotism always bothers me.

It isnt enough to simply join the network - the car has to perform on it.
This is a problem the Hyundai Kia line has today. They perform poorly on the network.

I haven't had that impression from TFL in the past. I'm just starting watching it now. I just saw the part about the hotel with the chargers and they didn't think to ask if they were standard Level 2. The problem with Superchargers is that they won't work with adapters even if they had one. It really seems they just made the mistake of not asking what the chargers were.

This test really hits home.

I'll never forget the trip I took in a 66 VW bus from Chicago to Demoine in December of 1984. My buddy who was a hawkeye picked up the bus during the summer from an Uncle. Driving it around town taking us to the lake in the city to was slow but tolerable. On the freeway it was an entirely different matter.

This rig was unrestored with paint peeling and Brian took a can of spray paint and wrote " hippie bus"on one side, and "Joe incredible bus"on the other immediately drawing hatred from conservatives and confused looks from others.

It was way below freezing, it never did warm up inside, 20 MPH headwind the entire time, with a wide open speed under those conditions of maybe 50, with gusts pushing it down to 45 or so, combined with the stability of a shopping cart at speed.

It got about 75-80 miles out of a tank in wind like that, and I couldn't stay far enough to the right to be out of anyones way Id have had to pull over to let a funeral pass.

These busses didn't have the cool renaissance at that time, and Ive never been honked at, light flashed, and flipped off so many time in a trip in my life.

At the time it was awful, but we laughed about it for decades later.

Not owning an EV that's something I've never thought about. If hotels etc. don't spell out what kind of chargers they have they should.

A universal standard plug and standard connectivity should be mandatory.
Plugshare has all of this info.

Does plugshare report Tesla Superchargers? Curious...
I don't know anything about them, or any non-Tesla charging apps.
What's nice about the Tesla system is it routes you to the appropriate chargers based on number of chargers, in-use vs open and down chargers.

I might check Plugshare out, just for my own information.

When the first gas cars came out horse owners were quick to point out no gas stations, no roads, and you can’t go anywhere without it being aggravating. So if get rid of evs now, nothing moves forward.

Do ev dislikers dislike the electricity in their dwellings? I don’t find it a me versus them issue in spite of my own opinions if I like gas ev better, or what I do like in this era of ev development, plug in hybrids. For one thing it rains and I don’t want to be in the rain plugging into a station unprotected.
In the video he is standing looking at the large gas station with covered fueling areas, while he is out by a charging station in the open that doesn’t work. In his blue jacket matching his blue van.
