Rogue pad change

Hi all. 2019 Rogue is due for new pads in the back. I purchased akebono pads and went to put them in last night. The oem pads have no abutment clips. The clips that came with the new pads do not fit the bracket - the ridges on the bracket are much wider than the openings in the clips. Has anyone ever encountered that? I tried to squeeze them on and was able to get the pads in, but the clips dont sit well at all. I feel like they would pop out at any moment. Ok leaving it like that or go with oem pads?
Lastly, the pistons on these calipers need to be pushed and screwed in at the same time. I'm going to rent the tool but am I going clockwise or counter? Thanks in advance

Well, if the new pads do not match up perfectly with the original pads, you have the wrong pads.

The pads are exactly the same in size but the oem pads don't use clips. I've never seen anything like that before.

I've never had a car that didn't use the hardware/clips but they may exist. Pads can be somewhat generic as well and that's why some pads come with 1, 2, 3 sets of different clips - the same pads can work in different cars.

If the old and new pads are "exactly the same in size", specifically for the "ears", don't use the hardware (that doesn't fit anyway).

Righty-tighty still applies. You're screwing the piston back "in".

Thank you. My only concern here is that the OEM pads have small metal tension tabs on the top and bottom that press against the bracket and keep them in place. The new pads obviously don't.

Yup, same here. I went on YouTube beforehand as well and nothing I saw looks even remotely close to what I encountered when I opened it up.

Do you have an electronic parking brake or manual parking brake? My catalog shows different pad fitments depending on the type of parking brake.

You’re welcome. Also, make sure you consult the proper service procedure. A lot of calipers with electronic parking brake require a scan tool to place the caliper into service mode before retracting the piston. Otherwise the caliper can be permanently damaged.

I usually go directly to the manufacturer site to confirm part(s), pads here, before purchase from any source. Looking at Akebono site on topic Rogue, ZERO mention of alternate fitment. Though rare I'd think, they missed on this one.

I used Autozone pads at work and I always got a bag with 3 sizes of clips.

That is a weird one, they list an alternate sku but don’t designate that sku being associated with electronic parking brake models. I know in the past when they had the three row models the brake pads in the front where different but they clearly denoted that when shopping online. Take care with those slide pin bolts just as an fyi, I cracked one last time getting a little fast cinching with the ratchet before switching to the torque wrench was a brown shorts moment but the wrenching gods were in my favor and I was able to back the bolt out and buy spares at Oreillys (it was the night before a trip), they really don’t like much past the 32 ft lbs of torque.
