Rockauto Shipping cost

Amazon can have great prices at times, but unless the item is sold and shipped by Amazon, you're at the mercy of the third party vendor.
This makes zero difference. The Amazon part will be shelved in the same bin as the part sold by "Bob's Auto" and shipped by Amazon. So you have no idea where it originated. Its whatever one the amazon employee grabs. There is zero protection with "sold and shipped" by Amazon.

Now I am happy to buy something that is unlikely to be counterfeit. But commodity items like filters or spark plugs from Amazon - no way.

I was under the impression that the Amazon warehousing system did not put similar items in same bin. Stuffed bear with pants with shower caddy. Reduces likelihood of human grabbing wrong item.

You'd be asking for it to put multiple fuel filters in same location and then ask human on a time quota to grab correct one.

It would be nice if they'd better distribute their inventory so I could manage combined shipping of noncritical items with the critical preferred items.
Its not there inventory. RA is not a parts retailer and they own no parts nor do the inventory anything. They are a website that is essentially giving you access to inventory at all kinds of major parts warehouses at significantly reduced prices, and significantly reduced shipping costs as well if in fact it ships from the same warehouse.

If the scavenger hunt game doesn't suit you then don't shop there.

They do not - they mix stuff in bin's so the picker will have to travel the least distance. Its the genius of there model - the same part might be in 100 different bins across the building. But once NGK spark plug 12345 is in the system - then there all the same commodity as far as their inventory pick system is concerned. So when you order one, BettyLou the picker will go to the nearest bin and grab them. So if those happened to originate from Bill's Auto Parts - those will be the ones you get from "shipped and sold" by Amazon. There is no differentiator in their system - a sku is a sku.

You're confusing multiple sellers on a combined product listing page.

Absolutely not. Amazon comingles commodities in their inventory and there inventory system.

They have talked about ending the practice, but the date keeps getting moved out.

Its not just by bin but also by warehouse. If "Bills Auto" inventory is in California and I do order from Bill, I will get the commodity from whatever warehouse is closest, and whatever bin is most convenient to the person picking my order. That is how automated warehousing works.

So you don't like accurate information because it destroys your narrative so you hate. Typical.

I guess the RA haters have united, so perhaps I should form a club. :ROFLMAO:

Last month made an order to RA for a smaller items shipping started at $6.99. Last night small light weight items (paper gasket small in size ) shipping started at $14.99 costing more than the gasket by 200% for envelope sized order! increasing number on gaskets increased price by approx $4 for each gasket. Has anyone else noted RA going big on postage?
I have to be careful making sure the things I want are coming from the same warehouse. If I can't, I just leave the items in my cart and wait until I order something from the warehouse that had the other parts I wanted...this is for regular maintenance items like wipers, filters etc.

Shop smart. Pay attention to "warehouse" symbol. Just a few days ago I got a brake caliper assembly and a CV axle from RockAuto, I made sure they came from the same warehouse. Shipped both of these were still cheaper than a single brake caliper from any local parts store, and no core charges/returns to deal with.

On the flipside - a serpentine belt shipped from RockAuto is same price as AutoZone, so I'll just buy it locally in time for replacement.

So RA has been doing a weird thing: the "truck" symbol won't always appear, but add a small item to your existing cart and then go to the cart, they'll still be shipping out of the same place.

Basically, don't always believe the truck symbol. Add an item to an existing cart and then go to the cart and see. This of course seems to be most common with small parts like small gaskets, filters etc.

I think their system is smart enough to try to avoid individually packing and shipping a small, lightweight item when possible.

I have very distinctly observed this when mocking up several carts in the past couple months.

I was gonna order break pads and rotors all around for the F250. Shipping was gonna be $200. They are heavy though. I just ordered from Napa local

As usual it's a GIGANTIC YMMV.

Using closeout parts, I just ordered two rotors and a set of pads for the rear of an '11 F350 dually D80 rear. Shipping from TWO warehouses totalled $43.

But the parts were so cheap that the grand total incl tax was $130.

Nowhere else are you gonna get a rear brake kit for a dually rear for $130 all in ‐‐ although to be fair I didn't even look at Amazon for weird stuff like Detroit Axle.

Simply curios - have you paid any attention to the "ship from" address? I am wondering if they use specific warehouses for Canadian shipments - or maybe even bond it through a broker?
Sort of. Montana Shipping in Eureka will hold the parcel for a small fee but they don't forward. That may change. I'll have to call them and check. I have not noticed any " gathering point" warehouses. It seems they do the the collection of the GST (general sales tax) and PST (provincial sales tax) through their head office in Wisconsin. Right now we are still operating on the free trade agreement and auto part flow across the border duty free. As far a finding a "forwarder" I imagine that will just stack more charges on but I'm open to ideas if someone knows one. On the other hand if things get any worse I will just use Parts Avatar in Canada and say Adios.

Oh man. What a deal. I paid a LOT for 4 rotors and pads. Like $1000

Yes, me to. I shipped two rotors, pad and some misc. parts for $10.99 I think. If its all the same warehouse your really can't beat RA.

I think owning a common car helps. My Nissan's were made from like 2005 to 2019 without changing much and they sold millions of Frontiers during that time. Xterra shares the majority of parts - so everyone has common stuff in stock.
