This weekend the annual Show & Shine (Saskatoon, SK Canada) events are ongoing; three days of music on the riverbank, special races at the drag strip and oval track, various car events throughout the weekend but culminating on Sunday with the downtown show.

Car clubs have reserved areas but there are many unreserved spaces for anyone who wants to exhibit their own registered and insured ride in completed, running condition. You must drive and park (angle parking only) before 10:30 AM on Sunday in the downtown area.

There are 12 city blocks reserved for show car parking. Generally expected turnout is 900+ cars, trucks and motorcycles.

I will try to post a few photos once I get back today.

As promised, some photos:

First car I came across, a big block Pontiac Astra (Chevy Vega)

A nice Chevelle SS Convertible with some wild induction

Under the hood of the Chevelle

Gotta love an AMC Javelin

Typical track car that runs weekly at the local oval

A local crane company had a display

At the sling of the crane, a Viper ... they were offering a contest for a free track ride

I'll post some more tomorrow ... it takes me about five minutes per image to navigate folders and resize the photos to 800px wide and compress the JPEGs down to a BITOG-server friendly 100~130 Kb, so off to bed for tonight.

Camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1

Just noticed all these cars (except probably the track car) so far had Big Blocks of one flavour or another. Nice.

There were special events the weekend, both at the local paved oval (Wyant Group Raceway):, operated by the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association and the drag racing track. The current oval track was constructed in 2005 and replaces two previous tracks, the first began in 1954. Both previous tracks are now within City Limits and have been re-deveoloped.

Track Facts:
Inaugral season - 2006
Track length - 3/8 mile paved oval
Progressive banking - straightaways 5 degrees; corners 7, 9.5 and 11 degrees
Three racing grooves
Grandstand seating capacity - 3319
15 corporate chalets

Drag Racing in Saskatoon dates back to 1941, and is now at it's second location, with the first races at the current track in 1966.
Prior to 1986 the Southwinds Dragway was an NHRA affiliated quarter mile track. It is the oldest drag racing facility in Western Canada.
In '86 it was renamed to Saskatchewan International Raceway and is now an IHRA affiliated track.
