Robocalls are out of control

Our landline gets 4-5 a day. Unless, it's a close family member, we don't answer the phone. I know they have been spoofing numbers for the past couple of years and we've gotten spam calls from the same prefix as ours and a relative with the last name will show up on the caller ID. About six months ago, my wife received a call on our land line phone from OUR EXACT HOME PHONE NUMBER. Think about it.... She definitely knew that was a spoof.

Here's how to end sales calls once and for all. You can sign up for all the software you want, but they will somehow, someway get around it, so.....
A law will have to be passed here. I know at least half the people are against more government regulation, but this will end sales calls once and for all.
Since the phone companies are in on selling numbers, have them set up a system where the recipient can sign up for a program where the recipient gets $.05 or $.10 on every call that they receive. (Remember this would be an optional signup. If you want all the sales calls, don't sign up) This can't be a debit or a discount on their next phone bill, this has to be hard, cold cash that the recipient can get their hands on. Now, if the average person calls this recipient, they have to let go of this nickle or dime. No big deal. Most people wouldn't miss it.
But to some telemarketer making hundreds of thousands or millions of calls per month, this will hit them in the pocketbook. Hard. And the calls to these pay-to-make-their-phone-ring calls will stop.
The ONLY thing that a telemarketer will pay attention to is loss of money.

Put the burden on them. After all they are the ones making money selling to telemarketers. Here's how it would work.

First prohibit any spoofing of numbers. Make possessing the software to spoof numbers illegal and subject to fine or arrest.
Let's be honest there is no legit business reason for any one or any company to spoof their number.

Anyone who wanted a landline or cell phone number would be required to sign a statement saying they will NOT call or solicit anyone on the do not call list. If they do
they will have their service immediately terminated by the phone company or cell phone provider.

When someone on the do not call list receives a telemarketing call they would file a complaint that would then go the phone company or cell phone provider who sold
the telemarketer that line/number.

After a small number of complaints (say 20) the phone company/cell phone provider would then be required to shut off the number/service of the offending caller.

If the phone company/cell phone provider does not shut them off within 48-72 hours, they (the phone company or cell phone provider) will be fined by the FTC.

The phone companies/cell phone providers will be required to keep a nationwide database of all individuals/companies who have had their number/services terminated.
After a set number of terminations, that company or individual will no longer be able to get any service from phone companies or cell phone providers.

Last robocall I got came from, according to my caller ID, my own number. Also, many of the robocallers are from other countries (often India).

Won't do any good...they frequently call from other countries.

Southwestern Bell/ATT is my local landline carrier. If ATT couldn't put $.05 or $.10 into my account when ANY call, either domestic or foreign calls me, then they would not be allowed to make my phone ring. It could be made to work.

A cpl a day most days.Super annoying to say the least.I just ignore then go in and block the number and delete.Free medical alarm seems to be popular.

I don't think NMRB works on a landline. I looked into it to save me at home. If you have a VOIP phone, it will work.

Correct. for Nomorobo to work it has to be VOIP.

Download the free app Mr. Number.
Its the best thing since sliced bread.
Stops them cold using their data base.
If one slips by you just block the number yourself on the app.
