Hey again everyone. Just arrived back in NY after a 7 1/2 hour drive from ohio. 499.8 miles from the start to end point. Car did fine, set cruise at 75 most of the time (took I-90) only real problems was awful road construction about 2-3 hours after Buffalo. They had the entire eastbound side redirected into two lanes on the westbound side, with no shoulders, concrete barriers on both sides. Just a notice for anyone travelling on the NYS Thruway anytime soon. Had to floor the car up some hills west of albany to maintain speed with the A/C on and try to catch up with my dad (driving the Mustang). I always seem to get stuck behind the slow people. Anyway, post your long road trips here!

I have driven from Chapel Hill, NC to Woodstock, VT a couple times. It's 757 miles, and nearly 13 hours, but it's an interesting drive. VA is really the worst part since it is boring and you are probably more likely to get a speeding ticket there than anywhere else.

I have also made the drive from Chapel Hill, NC and Charlotte, NC to Birmingham, AL several times. It's an easy drive, but kind of boring except for Atlanta. There are lots of troopers on I-20, but everyone speeds anyway. A more interesting, but much longer route is to go through the mountains, into TN, then down to AL. The scenery is worth it.

WI to SC and back. 950 miles each way! I left SC at noon and stoped only for gas. I was home by 3.30am. Averged 18.7 MPG with my old 1/2 ton.

Did Davenport, IA to Fort Collins, CO about a week ago. 834 miles in 11hrs and 5 minutes. My C4 got to stretch its legs a little bit and seemed quite happy.

My family and I rented a motorhome a couple of weeks ago and drove from mAss to Minneapolis (Mall of America) and then up to Duluth and points north to do some fishing, hiking, and relaxing. We went to Jay Cooke state park and went up to split rock lighthouse. It was a fun, family road trip totalling 3231 miles.



I'm heading out to Moab, UT in October. I'm trailering my Jeep (along with 15-20 fellow club members) and plan to run some of hte best rockcrawling in the country. I'll be out there for about 13-14 days and it should be about a 4600-4700 mile trip.

I just got back from a trip to Minnesota, 1112 miles since Friday morning in the Malibu.

Thank goodness for GPS. One of the written directions had me going to a site that didn't exist, but I was able to punch the name into the GPS and 10 minutes later, there I was.

XM Radio came in handy, too, only I'm trying to figure out how I hit so many "NO SIGNAL" pockets yet the GPS was getting its signals just fine.

Tunes definitely help for the long road trips! I dipped into my itunes and compiled about 6 CD's for the trip.

My dad lives in Guntersville, AL. We visit twice a year. Trip totals 512 miles and takes 8 hours.

Sister in law lives in San Antonio. That trip is taken once a year.
530 miles takes on average 8.5 to 9 hours.

Just last week I took the Vic to the other side of the mountains here in Washington State. Went to Sequim to visit family. About 287 miles and 5 hours on the nose, one way. I had my Sirius satellite radio and a GPS, although I only used the GPS for speed and location. Kept wanting to lead me to ferries. Probably would have been shorter than the roundabout way I took, but I like driving.
Longest road trip I have driven was when I went to Las Vegas, and then later, back. Thats about 1000 miles one way. I followed my Dad down there to his home. This was three of four years ago. I still remember trying to catch up to him in the middle of the Nevada desert and hitting the speed limiter on my poor Cavalier! Good times good times.. This was when I found out the 2.2L likes to burn oil when used on the open road. Never had to add oil before or after that trip. Checked it when I got to Vegas and, whoops, 1 qt low.

I lied. I actually hit 95MPH yesterday trying to catch up. I haven't checked the oil yet.. Maybe I should do that...

Round trip road trips, or just one-way?

In 1993 I drove my silver-gray Olds Cutlass coupe over two days from New Orleans to Carlsbad, NM, to visit the Guadelupe Mountains in Texas and the famous caverns in Carlsbad. On the return leg, I passed through San Antonio and saw the Alamo.

In May of 1997 I drove, not in my second Olds, but in a speed-limited Ryder rental truck with all my worldly goods inside and the car on a trailer behind it, to relocate from NO to Denver, CO. I hadn't been that excited in years, not since I was a kid and the new seasons of "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." started.

In the fall of that year I ran from Denver down to Taos, NM, passing through San Luis (the oldest town in CO) and visiting its Stations of the Cross. I stayed at the famous Taos Inn and visited, very politely, Taos Pueblo.

In November 2001 I came back from Denver. My furniture was in storage. So it was me, my clothes, and my friend Linda's black cat Marie-Antoinette on a three-day jaunt down through CO and a corner of NM to Amarillo, TX, and then US 287 to near Dallas, when I joined up with I-20. That run on 287 is one of my best memories. Car: '86 Mercedes 420SEL.

Earlier this year the Buick and I ran up to Knoxville, TN, through Birmingham, AL. While there I drove through Gatlinburg and climbed the winding road up to the North Carolina line.

My dream drive would be to drive, at my own pace, to a new home and job in Idaho or Montana, and never have to come back here. To visit friends, yes. To live, never!

Lots of driving going on here... Hah just checked the oil, was about 1/2 quart low over the past 700 miles, which I understand is fairly normal with the first Oil change with Maxlife. ATF was also a bit low, and I had to dump another can of R-134a into the system... I think I will end up replacing the compressor next spring.... In a few years I want to get my grandmother who used to live in alaska and drive up the ALCAN over the summer. Somehow I doubt my car would be up to that task, but you never know!

The end of July I drove 2350 miles over 8 days with the wife and 3 kids(4,2,5months). We drove from Southern Ohio to Lexington Ky, Lexington to Memphis, Memphis to New Orleans, New Orleans to Bay St Louis MS, Bay St Louis to Panama City Fl, back home to Southern Ohio.

We drove the entire length of Mississippi, all I have to say is never again. If the casino's left MS there would be nothing left.

We saw a lot of Katrina damage driving along U.S. Rt 90 in MS. Entire towns are just gone, as in nothing left standing. Absolutely depressing.

I LOVE road trips, but I don't take nearly as many as I used to. Back in the late 80s I'd jump in my old '73 Satellite and go anywhere in the country at the drop of a hat. Took my (then future) wife from Texas to NC to spend a week with her family before we got married. Made numerous trips to Colorado, one to Florida, lots of other places.

I keep trying to get the time and planning in place to drive a big loop around the western US- Head west from Tx to San Diego, then up the west coast all the way to Seattle, then back down through Utah into the canyonlands. But the most we do these days seems to be New Mexico and West Texas- too many things prevent us from being away from home more than a week at a time. My wife wants to drive up the East Coast some day, but I see no attraction that direction. Open highways, deserts, and mountains are more my thing.
