So it looks like I need to make a road trip. I need to do some misc home repairs / maintenance at my parents house & on the way back I might as well stop by my sisters house and stir the pot there for a couple days. Going from Michigan to Orlando FL to Wake Forest NC and back to Michigan again.

Trying to plan fuel stops at high volume fuel locations and I think I can make all fuel stops at those big Bucees stations. I'm assuming that since they have high volume their Diesel fuel should be a safe bet. DEF shouldn't be a concern since 1 tank is good for about 7,000 miles and I'm currently full.

Do you think my plan is sound or maybe I'm over thinking fuel quality and just fill up wherever.

Shell also tends to be high quality. Stations right off the interstate will likely be high volume so I wouldn't sweat it. The only downside is that fuel stations right off the highway tend to be a little higher as most don't want to venture too far off to find cheaper fuel.

Get whatever is cheapest and most convenient. Bucees isn't any better of fuel.

Side note - I know both owners personally. Close family friends and I flew their Challenger jet for a while before delivering it to a client when they sold it. Now they have a global and Longitude. Never seen Don in anything but a polo and tennis shoes and Beaver still wears camo everywhere. Bucee was Beaver's dog.

Bucee's, Love's, Pilot/Flying J, TA/Petro all have pretty major turnover so likely all will be fresh. Maybe us gasbuddy app to find best prices among them? Safe travels.

Aren't detergent packages different in top tier fuel stations though?
There is no reason a station who does not pay a tithe to Top Tier can not be using as good or better of a detergent package. Top Tier does not make detergent packages, they simply audit the station's purchase records to verify sufficient approved detergents were purchased. Charge for the service, and permit use of Top Tier signage.

My opinion, if you're looking for fresh diesel, Loves/Pilots (IE Truck Stops) over Bucees.

Reason being that those other places cater to big rigs so they're running a lot more diesel than the rodent likely is. Bucees doesn't allow big trucks. Sure they'll probably have plenty of diesel flowing through just from RV'ers and other trucks, just not as much as the other places that cater to big rigs that load hundreds of gallons at a time.

Top tier when it comes to diesel is meh. I ran tons of farm diesel through my LR Discovery that sat for months in tanks. It’s not like gas.

Top Tier Diesel isn't really a thing other than Costco fuel and I am not a Costco member so that is out of the picture.

Oh, I just changed the oil in the truck yesterday to HPLs custom blended 5W30 Dexos D oil with a MicroGard Select filter so I'll have some data on that soon.

How hard is diesel filter change on the Sierra? Shouldn't happen but just in case you got a load of junk and it clogged can that be done roadside?

Just thinking from the home heating oil filter (red diesel fuel) I posted last week that clogged in 45 days from sludge in tank.

Way old school for me in the '80's I had to swap fuel filter in my 305 Malibu with Quadrajet. That was pretty easy and filters were common at shops back then. Now with the in tank fuel filters/pumps, not so much.

Plus Flying J from memory has/had some of the best breakfast restaurants on road trips when I was a kid.

Filter is super easy to change. Since I will have a lot of space in the back I was thinking of bringing my backup filter and socket with me.
