Anyway, I am sure ARX is some great stuff...but I maintain my vehicles more than the AVG Joe, but I am not quite as militant as some of you on this board. I like the fact I can get a 4 dollar bottle of stuff to use once a year and it cleans the motor in a safe way. I am otherwise not big on oil additives.

Another example is to clean carbon from valves & pistons...many would probably say that BG 44k is the best...but I like to go to the parts house and get a 7 dollar can of SeaFoam. The stuff works well enough for me, and the AVG soccer Mom's Tahoe will never so much as see a cheap bottel of injector cleaner so the fact that I SeaFoam my cars is more than 99% of the population does. Same thing goes for Rislone...it might not be the "special" stuff, ut it is a decent product at a decent price that is better than not using anything.

Using paper air filters instead of K&N and using Rislone every now and then will keep your crank case & valve train nice & clean.

It surprises me to see so many attack about using something other than ARX when half the people on this board decide what oil to run based on price...If not, everyone would use Redline, or ELF racing oils LOL.


I say if it works for you stick with it.
 
My dad used to use it and told me to use it. I did for a while.

No ill effects. Not sure if it really did anything either.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but Rislone had very little do do with how clean your engine was - the 3k changes w/a quality oil did it!

I guess they're lying, but the product does have a large following (not on BITOG...) and has proven results for people by freeing up sticky rings and valves.

I used to use it when it was like a buck a quart, but now they've jacked the price up.

Could you explain your comment about lying? I would like to clear it up if possible.

I understand Rislone does not have the following on this website as it probably should. This is most likely since we are not a sponsor here. I am not 100% sure how many bottles of Auto-RX that is sold since they don't have any retail sales reported by NPD, but most likely we sell more bottles in a day then they sell in a year. They do have a good product and formula, as I also believe we do too. We are always looking at updates to the formula to match changes in oil or vehicles. So I am open to any suggestions. It has a good following and has helped millions of people with dirt and sludge type related issues.
 
Well, it's kinda like unless your product either has a cult following or can be shown by VOA to have good qualities... it's hard to get BITOGers behind it. But, it happened with MMO and if consistent results are shown with Rislone it could happen there too. I just don't think enough of us have used it. If you're looking for a rislone cult, you won't get it. But show us results that we can duplicate rislone will have a following just as many non-sponsored products do.

I've used rislone compression treatment before and that stuff is worthless, but regular rislone is good for keeping things clean and non-sticky IMO. I learned to use it from my grandfather and he's used it for fifty years and more with great results (yes, teardowns). I use other products myself, but I understand regular rislone is good and acknowledge it as such.

I meant that the person I replied to said another member tested it and found it to be nothing but light oil with hardly any additives, and that Rislone states the product has solvents and additives that clean the engine. It was a sarcastic comment.

But I know people who've had tangible results from using Rislone.
 
I used Rislone in many a small block Chevy with "ticking" lifters back in the day. As I remember it helped about 2 out of 3 times.
I always thought it was a good product. Granted the oils were not even close to the quality they are now.

If something works for you, keep doing it!

I will assume form your post that you are an employee; maybe even a senior person at Bar's?

If that is the case, I'd like to give you recognition for taking the time to actually join & read a forum to see what the regular "folks" want & talk about when it comes to oil & oil additives. I doubt many owners/employees of other companies stoop to this level LOL.

Anyway, in case you are who you appear to be, I'd just like to say that I have used Rislone for over 10yrs and I believe in the product. I sold Auto Parts for 4 years and I recommended it (as well as lots of bars leak for coolant leaks), to many a customer...

I am not trying to brown-nose, but I wanted to give credit where credit is due if you are in fact a "suit" at the company that makes Rislone, an took the time to participate here.

I hope some of the top-shelf oil makers will come on here but they'd probably get over-whelmed.

One of the ingredients that would not show up on a report is the N-Butyl Acetate. Though it is a small percentage, it does a very good job at cleaning sticky lifters, piston ring grooves and especially the vapors accumulate in cold spots within the engine to help dissolve sludge.

It would be interesting for someone here with a severely sludged engine to try Rislone for a few oil change intervals and report back with results, especially on an engine where you can remove the valve cover easily.

Very interesting. It's information like this that will foster an interest in rislone. That's alot better that saying, "It's a secret" or "It's magic" or something similar. Thanks alot!
 
I have been using it for years...clean engine...I use it once a year in an oil change in my DD vehicle...I have also mixed with both dino & Mobil 1 with no issues and no new leaks or anything...a good product for the price (although it has gone up about 200% since a few years ago), and is available at most parts houses & even wal-mart
 
I changed my oil last night and I used a QT of Rislone in place of a QT of oil...

I like to do one change per year (max) and use Rislone to keep my motor sludge & varnish free.

I used 5qts of Trop-artic 10w30 syn-blend & a QT of Rislone (takes 6 total) in my 4.0L Jeep w/ 73k. It has been about 4200 miles since my last oil change. I use Pro-tec filters (made by WIX).

All I can say is when I pulled the valve covers on my Camaro at 150k, it was virtually varnish-free. I had used Rislone 2-3 times since I had gotten the car at 118k.

It would be interesting to run 2 consecutive oil changes and do used oil analysis, then run 2 oil changes with the same oil and Rislone and do used oil analysis.

Using the same oils across the board you would be able to see a little of what is going on.
