Risk of ATF extraction through dipstick?

I have done the trans and filter 3 times and I don't remember where the dip stick and filter is . But I can suck out most of the oil . The filter is held into place with the pan. There is the elastomer gasket in the pick up tube as you mentioned it is an easy job to do.

if you could, then a pothole could aswell
That’s a good point.

And quite honestly, the ones that aren’t physically bolted down are so hard to get out sometime...usually need a pry bar or I really have to tug on it.

Hopefully the OP isn’t too worried about it.

Back to the OP’s question of can you dislodge a filter with the plastic hose. The answer is no. I do a vacuum removal of four quarts on my 6L90 yearly and a pan drop and a filter replacement and magnet cleaning every 5 years.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease, I figured they wouldn’t have designed the filter without a bolt if the pan didn’t hold it in place. I’m just going to continue with my evacuation/fill until I’m out of maxlife, then when it warms up I’ll do the pan drop, filter replacement and fill with redline d-6.

Could buy a snake camera to see inside of tranny . I too had this thought after using the extractor for the A.T.. Thinking of this one , .

If the dipstick doesn't interfere with the filter when fully seated, then I doubt a plastic tube would either. You could always use the dipstick and use it as reference on the length of the plastic tube to get an idea how far down you're pushing it. The "full" mark on that particular dipstick is even with the top of the pan when it's completely seated....just FYI.

ANOTHER FYI....of all transmissions I've serviced over the years, the only ones that failed right after a service were Ford Taurus transmissions....the Focus transmissions were very similar. There's a reason why A LOT of transmission builders won't touch them.
