I had never heard of him before this but from what I have read this morning he was a good guy who did a lot of good things helping out others. Very sad.

So many times, gear heads get together, in this case to do some good at an event to raise money for typhoon victims, and a few "spirited" drives take place to have some fun. Anybody who has a fast car has taken a friend for a drive and unwound it a bit. This time it ended in the worst possible way and that's a tragedy.

It seemed he was a good guy, a true enthusiast, who used his status to give back some. Again, this whole thing played out at an event hosted by his charity to raise money for typhoon victims. The world needs people who give a little more, especially in someplace as a trivial as Hollywood.

My sympathies go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter.

well said.

I get the feeling they weren't racing. One of the witnesses said the car might have been on fire before it crashed, so maybe a mechanical failure caused the accident.

If you see the skidmarks and the way the car was wrapped around the lamp post, you can safely conclude they were going very, very fast

The driver overestimated his skill in the Carrera GT. That's a wickedly hard car to control

I never even knew he was a real enthusiast and 'car guy'.

I thought he only 'played one'.

This was the V-10 mid-engined, half million buck, prototype looking, monster and not a 'run of the mill', 911 series GT2/3 correct??

In any case, yes, he seemed like a righteous and generous dude.

RIP Mr. Walker.

RIP indeed. Sounded like a great guy, and while not necessarily an "ac-torr" (in the words of Dr. Tobias Funke), his style made his characters very down to earth and likable.

That's very unfortunate... RIP.

Still not much word on what happened/how it happened. There was a yellow S2000 roped off in the accident scene and I read somewhere the Porsche driver knew that driver so I'm thinking he must've seen something.

That's what I was going to post just now! lol.

But yeah. They may have been having fun and his friend probably lost control of the Porsche.

What model porsche was it that his friend was driving?

The really nice V10 carrera GT. VERY nice example of Porsche-ness.

Speculation shows a possibility of there being a fluid leak, that may have caused this accident.

Carrera GT's seem to be difficult cars to drive, Jay Leno lost one in a similar fashion except he was on a track so he had room to bleed off his speed.

The accident looks like an Autobahn accident, I bet they were well over 100. You don't cut a car in half and turn into a spectacular fireball at 35mph, heck that car could probably stop in 30ft at the speed limit.

Fooling around is fun and we have all done it, but...sometimes it doesn't work out...

Well-put. Agreed.

Lots of speculation on the Web about this accident. Fortunately there are investigators that actually look at the evidence on-scene.

According to the police, the car was going between 40-45 mph when the driver lost control. The speed limit on that road is 45 mph. There was an advisory speed limit sign of 15 mph, for an upcoming turn in the road. The car crashed before it ever reached that turn.

Sorry but I would have serious doubts about the speed claim. You don't just wrap a car around a post and send parts flying at 45.

Assuming the EDR (event data recorder) survived intact, the investigators would know exactly how fast the car was going, at the time of impact.

I seriously doubt they would lie about their findings. If they had been speeding, that is something the authorities would want to announce to the public, as a severe consequence of driving recklessly. Especially in a high-profile fatal accident where one of the deceased is known for his very successful street racing movies.

A Porsche Carrera GT, is not constructed like your average everyday grocery getter. A carbon fiber tub, and a design that is intended to come apart so as to dissipate crash energy during a crash, would look pretty bad in a relatively low-speed crash.

And the speed estimate they have already would have been done based upon skid marks. The EDR would merely be corroborating evidence.
