RIP George Foreman

He will be missed. I’m only familiar with his post-retirement image as a pitchman. No grill jokes!
Big George was an Olympic champion. In 1968, at 18, he KO'ed the heavily favored, and experienced, Soviet in the 2nd round. Domination from the opening bell. His opponent's face was already bleeding in the first round from Foreman's punches, and had to take a standing 8 count in the second and final round.

We loved him.

Watched him fight then undefeated champion Joe Frazier on closed circuit TV in a Detroit movie theater in '73. He knocked Smoke'n Joe down six times in the first two rounds. The fight was stopped 1:35 into the second round. Incredible punching power.

RIP champ.

That’s my thought of him exactly. I didn’t track him as a professional fighter, I’m too young for that. He was a friendly TV personality that we knew had been a boxing champion.

RIP.
Unlike many, George Foreman was a gentleman outside the ring and highly praised his opponents. He never bragged about his incredible punching power that devastated the other guy time after time.
