capital negotiators, the previous owner put them on before the car was traded in where i got it. im just trying to burn then down so i can get BFG KDW2s or Michelin PS2s.

I've got 18 x 8.5 on my BMW rear and 18 x 8.0 on the front. Check out the Yokohama AVS dB decibel V550, a UHP tire designed from the start to be quiet. I scare the you-know-what out of everybody who has been for a ride with me. A lot quieter than the Bridgestone RE040A and Contimental ContiSport Contact that was on the rear when I bought it four months ago.

I have an almost new (@100 miles) set of 18" OEM P-Zero Rossos (95Y) that you can have for cheap if interested. Took them off at vehicle delivery, as we get snow here.

You guys talk like 40 or 45 series tires are the end of the world. 40/45 series tires come stock on so many OEM cars now. Sure there are downsides to a lower profile tire, but its not like they are going to spontaneously combust and kill you.

Watch out for pot holes and maintain your tire pressures and you'll be fine.

Go on any site dedicated to cars running 40s and 45s, and you'll read plenty about blowouts and tire failures. No, it's not the end of the world to have them, but the risk shoots up dramatically as you reduce the sidewall profile. In some locations (like NYC), the road conditions are just too unfavorable. And folks driving on 40s also tend to drive faster. Not a good combination when a blowout happens.

I just sold my spare set of PZeros above to a guy who just had a blowout on one.

I don't know... I've got a set of 225-45-17's on my car, drive it like its stolen, and have never had a blow out due to impact. I've got almost 72k on the car. I frequent a site where lots of folks are running 35 and 40 series on 18 and up rims with very few problems. May not be what you run, just where you run.

Yup. Up here in Chicago even 235/45/17 seems to be a struggle. The roads suck major donkey balls.
