Hello and does anyone here know of a great place to get a great reuben sandwich? There is a local firehall up north of me that on weekends has reuben and chili for $4.99 especially at this time of year(hunting season). There is also a local family owned small diner that makes their reuben from scratch, including the sauerkraut and their corned beef is to die for.

let me know your stories of places that make a great reuben guys.

Carnegie Deli?

In reality, any Jewish place should make a decent one. Find a diner that sells Matzoh Ball Soup and youre on your way...

Good one:
Famous 4th Street Delicatessen
700 S 4th St
Philadelphia, PA 19147

Hands down the best reuben I have ever had is at Harold's.

Harold's New York Deli Restaurant
10 Polito Ave
Lyndhurst, NJ 07071

Thanks guys and I am in Pittsburgh area, and dont get to downtown much, but have been to Philadelphia to see the brothers wife's friends. Will look into that next time.

yeah, I love a great reuben myself with homemade bread.

One of the best things I like to make at home. I think the key to it is the homemade sauerkraut and we make a ton of it in the fall.

this is true also. When I go up north, I make it a point to go to the firehall to have one.

Really?

Grew up really close to there, but never ate at that restaurant. Will have to change soon!

Just went there.

WONDERFUL Matzoh Ball Soup

Got the Junior Reuben, as the regular one feeds about four... It was GREAT!

Also had the smoked salmon platter, which really had an excellent tasting salmon...

Their pickle bar was great too!

Great place! It is in a Quality Inn off of Rutherford Ave., not what one would expect. Partially a bar to hang out at after Devils games.

The proprietor used to run the Clairmont diner (I never was at the original, but liked the second one on rte 3), as well as the Carnegie in NYC.

Great place!

LOL! I know, you walk in and it's like:

"this is it????"

But the food is out of this world!!!

WOW that looks great.

There are very few places in the PNW that make a good Reuben. Some even put like one slice of meat. Terrible.

That said - of all places our work cafeteria makes a pretty good Reuben. Had one today!!

I couldn't be married to a Cincy girl without mentioning at least one of the Reubens availiable there:

But down here we have Schlotzsky's from Austin or Jason's Deli from Beaumont.

Jason's makes a respectable Reuben. Schlotzsky's serves it on a pumpernickel rye bun which offends the traditionalists but if you get a good Schlotzsky's, it's not bad.

My favorite sandwich shop, Dino's (relative of the Dino of the Dino's Bar and Grill in the Thin Lizzy song), does not make a Reuben. Just order a Blackjack. Trust me.

I love Reubens. Probably my favorite sandwich. I've been eating one every day for a week. My mother in law brought over a fresh loaf of rye that was screaming to be made into Reubens.

My home made sandwiches are better than anything I've found in Seattle.

I love them too. Had one last week from Drexy's on the main floor of PMH when I was up in the GTA.

Definitely my favorite sandwich

Alright, I know this is not going to be the "best" Reuben sandwich ever...heck I can't even vouch that it might be considered "adequate" by a starving person...but Arby's is offering a BOGO this weekend on their Reubens:

Facebook "like," free coupon.

Again, I'm not a connoisseur of Arby's, so don't shoot the messenger. Just thought I'd share this in case any of you are fine w/the "low expectations/low funds" dynamic.
