I went to a retirement party for a person that worked as an electrician at the same hospital for 35 years.

I worked at this hospital many years ago and every few months I would buy the Plant Ops crew (electrician, plumber, carpenter, painter, HVAC, general mechanic) lunch cause they always helped me.

It’s getting rare to see a person work the same job and stay with the same employer for so long.
The younger people at this party always chuckled when they found out he worked there 35 years.

There’s a nurse manager at this hospital with 51 years of seniority. Very sharp and still working 40 hours per week.

I worked with a woman who started at our employer BEFORE I was born. She retired a couple years ago with 54 years. She didn't really want to retire but also didn't want to be forced to return to office. She was absolutely at the top of her game and was widely known and highly respected.

My wife retired last week after 41 years at the same small law firm. I'm giving notice next week after over 20 years at the same biotech company. Many biotech companies don't last 20 years. We got a couple drugs approved and helped a lot of patients with no other treatments available.

My former employer (Government Sponsored Enterprise) is full of multi-decade employees. Rarely does anyone leave for greener pastures.

When i find an employer that treats me better than my old lady i will consider doing 35 to life. not many good employers out there willing to give a good pension and cadillac insurance.

My mom had 42 years in with one employer when they called her while sick with C****19 and told her she was no longer needed. The same employer did the same thing to my father with 35 years in.

My uncle worked around 45 years with a well known automotive belt manufacturer on this forum and was walked out of the building.

If I spend that long at one place it will be working for myself. There is no reward for tenure anymore especially considering pay, I have job hopped a few times for substantial pay increases. Even left and came back to one place and got more money than I would have in raises had I stayed there.

The 82 year old mechanic at my work has been at our dealership in the Toyota department since they got a Toyota franchise in 1985. Unfortunately he will never retire he says as he doesn’t believe in retirement and has no money saved up for retirement or personal use either. He says he loves working and that his parents told him to never retire I guess he took it literally.

Management has been trying to run him off but like he said he has nothing if he quits or retires so he’s not going to leave. I personally enjoy having him there and he’s a great resource when something old or odd comes in he can tell us all about it.
