I can't speak for lifts, but all my machines have had electric PTO's and they've all worked well. I'm curious why you'd advise to stay away?

Incredibly expensive to buy new, if even available. A new one for a 210, 212, 214 Deere from the dealer is well over $800, if it is still available.

Ouch! I priced mine out once, because I though I'd fouled up the electrical connector. $250 from Deere, quite a bit less in the aftermarket. That's a bigger one for my front mount mower. I just looked up my other Deere lawn tractor, and it's $119 for the clutch.

But I agree with you when you have a model where replacement clutches cost $800+...that's painful! When the clutch goes, the tractor might as well get scrapped.
