Anyone taken advantage of the ability to cut in line for one reason or another?

There are a few places I’ve been to with long lines. I’ve been told by employees that anyone who has already gone through the line for the session (lunch or dinner are separate) can just go to the front of the line to make another purchase. And they have long lines at times. I’ve rarely used it, but remarkably I didn’t see anyone complain when I explained that they could do it too if so inclined.

I remember another time we were in Vegas at a buffet that had 3-4 hour wait in line on a holiday. But we had some friends who were already inside (they got there early before the line was that long) and they were told that we could join them inside without waiting in line. That was just crazy.

It depends on how you look at it. If someone is already inside and their friends have to wait before joining them. Those existing customers won't leave and just sit there. It is a bad way to turn tables. Other customers in line have to wait too.

On the other hand I have seen some Sushi places not letting customers of smaller group (i.e. 2) get ahead of another larger group despite this leaving the smaller table empty. This is done to avoid pissing off the customers ahead but this make the overall efficiency worse and more people behind them wait longer as a whole.

Beyond that, you can "cut in line" if you make reservations days or hours in advance. I personally consider that "cutting in line" as well but to each of his own. I don't think I would get upset about any of the above as long as the restaurant owners are ok with it, and as long as they don't discriminate using like skin color or nationality.

I have not heard of this. Sounds like it fits the society of the privileged.

Nah. At least not at this one place that’s known as a bargain place where college students can eat well for a few dollars. But this only makes sense for a place with counter service. I’ll just say one time I was there in the last month I waited about 30 minutes. But I recall one employee telling me of this rule, and I confirmed it with another employee before I tried it later. But it’s also a way for someone to just go back for a beverage or perhaps later for dessert.

This sounds like a good way to make someone turn hostile. I wouldn't dare no matter what the rules were. And waiting 3 or 4 hours in a buffet line? I wouldn't do that for a free prime rib dinner with a bottle of red wine included.

All the (remaining) buffets in Vegas would be like that, especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving.

We have a higher tier status in Vegas so it allows us to cut the regular line and join the higher tier status line. Then those with higher tier than us, cut us. We can and do cut lines at some restaurants in the casinos.

There can be crazy long lines for buffets in Vegas. At least there used to be. Very few buffets are left and some of the few left are quite expensive for a buffet.

I was thinking of places where all customers get in line, either to order or to get in line for a buffet. Reservations aren’t quite the same, and even at a lot of sites down restaurants these days there’s a waiting list for walk up and not a line.

At that buffet, once our friends left they rearranged the tables to put them back in service and we finished up on one table. It was good. Pricey too on a holiday, but I’m not sure about 3-4 hours good. There were plenty of places to eat in Vegas that day without a long line.

Oh yeah. Never a big gambler but I did get offers including for at a grand opening of a remodeled buffet on July 4. That was at least a 1 hour wait because of all the others with the free offer. Never got that kind of benefit, but I get how that works. I think Caesar’s (formerly Harrah’s) top level is “Seven Stars”, which I heard described all seven of Bill Harrah’s marriages (including twice to one woman). I saw a separate line for high level members, although I don’t think it improved the quality of the food.

I can understand 3 times but after that, one would probably wise up and realize marriage is not meant for him.

Bill Harrah was married to Bobbie Gentry who wrote and performed Ode To Billie Joe, one of the greatest songs ever. They were married about 1 year.

His original legacy is gone after Caesar’s sold off Harrah’s Reno. I even remember when they absorbed Harold’s Club and turned it into an attached Hampton Inn. Never went to the National Automobile Museum though. It all started in Reno after Bill Harrah got shut down trying to operate bingo games in Southern California.

Harrah’s had this small casino in Lake Tahoe called Bill’s. I learned how to play real blackjack there, where they had low minimums and no smoking. Was formerly a place called Barney’s and was bought by Harrah’s after Bill had passed on. Kind of a casual experience, and they didn’t provide any comps even though it was part of the chain.

Jumping a queue in London might as well be a hanging offense. I learned this the hard way when I got in a short line to a booth at Borough Market. Turned out there was a secondary queue which fed the shorter queue next to the stall. Queue culture in the UK is almost its own religion. I now look carefully before attempting to get into any queue.

If you are in uniform; military, scrubs, LEO, I won't make a stink.

Probably wouldn't make one anyway because we live amongst psychopaths and you can't tell anymore.

Wait, I was in line at the airport, maze-like roped off line. Woman moves to the corner of a turn to let everyone pass so she can adjust her bag etc. It appeared she was making way for everyone to pass her. She then come sup to me and asked why I cut her in line. I said you moved to the side and you expected me to hold up the line because you aren't prepared? She huffed and left me along.

Yep. Resort Casinos typically have special lines for guests who have certain status. We use it all the time when possible.

I do remember once at Costco there was someone who just went to the window to collect a hot dog purchased at the checkout. She said their rules allowed it when the purchase was made that way. Someone in line complained and the employee told everyone that she was supposed to get in line with everyone else. But she got away with it that day. Maybe several times before. Possibly afterwards if she was pushing her luck.
