Nichols broke ground and paved the way for Black actors in Hollywood as Uhura. Her castmate George Takei wrote, "We lived long and prospered together."

Well that stinks to hear about

A true loss of one of the trailer blazers of her time. She really carried the roll of Lt. Uhura very well; made it believable and entertaining. Was the original series sort of "campy" by today's standards? Sure it was. But it was really avant guard for it's day, and she was one of several that made it happen.
