Resin Impregnated Cellulose Filter Media

While reading the product description about a K&N filter, I remembered when I cut open a WIX 51040, I noticed the pleats were very stiff and crunchy. I think they must have been resin impregnated just like the K&N filters are. I always thought there was something wrong with that WIX filter and so I haven't bought any since, but if the filter media was impregnated with resin, that would explain the stiff crunchy feel to it.

That's the same filter i have on my Buick. I am going to try a the Wix in the same size next to see if it relieves some of my start up noise.

I'd be interested in how much extra flow the racing filter has compared to other premiums.

Many (most) cellulose filters are resin impregnated. That's how they hold their shape. Not all are "crunchy" ( : < ) though.
