I am not finding anything good online, but it appears when you buy a $1k + whole house resin tank filter (not a softener) that its basically all the same hardware, however the media bed or resin bed is different. I have an old 9" resin tank from a broken water softener, and was able to dump the old junk media out of it. I would like to put in all new media, and put a new upper control on it, and use it for a whole house filter. Any ideas how I should do this?

Water softener resin is not a filtering media. What were you going to use instead?

How are you going to clean the new media? Replace it after a set time? How will you know it needs replacing?

How? and What type of media? That is my question.....

If you pay a huge fee for a "whole house water filter" its a big black resin tank, with that manufactures scientific media in it, and a backwash timer head that screws on. That is what I would like to make myself. This way it can just backwash with plain water every X amount of gallons.
