I doubt that anyone can fathom the level of devastation that has ravaged Haiti from the reports submitted via television. I would think that unless you had personally been a part of something similar, the idea is difficult to grasp (Lord knows that I can't).

Americans have been generous in their immediate support. Given the tough economic times here, it has beeen remarkable. I hope this can continue.

Let's not forget Haiti after the smoke has cleared. Let's hope that the right thing can be done for its people. The U.S. remains the best hope for the rest of this world. The American people are solely responsible for this.

Agreed fully and wholeheartedly.

If nothing else, no other country has the resources to do what the US can do. We should strive to be the best we can be and do what we can for the less fortunate in the world.

Critics are valuable; haters are not.

Well said.

Not to try and upstage what has been said about the excellent work the US did, I've been impressed with just how quickly Canada moved on this one, too. We had guys in the air pretty darn quick, for us.

I think this is a little harsh, in the past America has had a negative impact on Haiti But this was a Naural disaster!

While I'm all for giving them as much aid as they need (Me and the Mrs. contributed) for survivors' health and well being, I'm not sure how much aid we should give long-term. I definitely don't think we are in a position to offer aid from a federal level...we are broke as it is. When you have a country with a 70% unemployment rate (YES, 70%) and buildings are constructed without codes, lack of emergency personnel, etc., to what extent do we continue to supply money? Very few companies want to be located there. In this particular case, it's possible to give aid to the point where you can make them better than they were BEFORE the earthquake hit. Don't mean to start a war, just stating my opinion.

Well said.

I don't understand the quote "The American people are solely responsible for this".
