Report: Toyota Repairs No Fix for Problems

It's just damage control, nothing more.

I personally thing people spent a more than a considerable amount of time deciding which car to buy, here's one example. If you like spend the rest of the day comparing any model, any year, similarly equipped....

Oh! and before someone goes and says the chevy was less when new, it's just not so!! Regardless of what the sticker price said at the time..


There just cars/trucks, if your not happy with it, trade for something else. I've bought many cars/trucks, if they don't live up to my expectations, there GONE!!! period......

I don't think there are any other automakers that have had no faults with their design. I read an article when the whole Toyota craziness started, and the NHTSA reported it has received complaints of "unintended acceleration" for just about every drive-by-wire manufacturer, including Ford and Honda. Toyota just happens to be the one that caught the public eye. Look at GM, they are blaming Toyota for their recalls!


There are always going to be reports of unintended acceleration. I just takes some one pressing the gas instead of the brake and believing all a long that they are on the brake. What you have to look for is either over a certain number of reports per amount of cars sold or numbers higher than the average. In this case Toyota's number corresponded to something like 1 in 50,000 cars. While Gm's ratio was something like 1 in 500,000 cars.

EVERY DBW car needs to have a brake/gas pedal interlock. That would cure grandma from smashing through the front of a Subway store.

Why don't you enlighten us as to what the base price was for both cars, and cite your source? I don't trust Toyota or their brainwashed owners as far as I can throw one.

Here's what I found right off the NADA website for both in stripped down models, both sedans, both 100,000 miles, both clean retail, both my zip code:

Cavalier: $3500, Corolla: $4825 = $1325 difference.

I am fairly positive the base price of the Corolla vs. the Cavalier was greater than $1325, and the corolla was never available in any trim such as Z24 or a convertible. To me the Cavalier offers much more choices for an entry level car, for a lot less money.

That's because Toyota's false perception of quality, nothing more. The Cavalier is actually a better car. I have owned one. Less problems than Toyota, but the anti-American import sheeple can't bear to hear it.
 
I love American cars. I also am a huge fan of GM and Ford. However I believe the truth is the only thing that ever matters.

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best small cars ever built. The Cavalier is so outclassed by it that a comparison is laughable.
GM admitted it couldn't touch Toyota's small car expertise. The Geo/Chevrolet Prizm is a testament to that very fact.

Depending on the year, there were quite a few where I think the Cavalier was better than the Corolla, and 1998 was one of them.

I had a rental 2009 Corolla a couple of weeks ago, my 2005 Cobalt was a much nicer car than the current gen.

Check out the secondhand market for a 1998 cavalier vs. 1998 corolla. The market does NOT lie. You can buy three cavaliers for the price of one corolla. This isn't by accident.
 
Cant speak for the Corolla but my GF has a 02 Cavalier base model 2.2ohv 5-speed manual that she bought new and with 93k on it the only problem it has had is a bad fuel pump. I dont think you could complain much about that.

So, that means that Corolla is 3x better than the Cavalier?

All that proves, is that market is full of stupid people willing to spend thousands of dollars on a car that is at the end of it's life cycle just because it's a Toyota or Honda, where equally good cars are available for much less.

When I commented on this thread yesterday my point was not whether one car is better than the other. It was based on which would be a better investment in the long term. I don't think anyone can dispute Honda, Toyota and others have had better resell values for quite a long time now. It all depends on what is more important to you at the time of purchase. If you keep your cars 10+ years and put 200k on them then I guess it really doesn't matter, however if you like to trade your car every few years then it just makes sense (at least to me)to buy something which would give you a better return on your investment.

With that being said, I'm not loyal to any brand (except older GM) and try something different every few years. Toyota is just what the family is currently driving. I'm happy with them, but as I said yesterday if that changes, there gone the next day without any hesitation.

To insinuate "These individuals don't spend any considerable time, if any, researching the truth. These are the same Sheeple that believed Toyota was God." is just ridiculous!

Those are ancient cars! 1998? 12 years old? I would agree that a Cobalt is a nicer basic car than a corolla. My favorite small car rental.

Arco, I don't completely disagree with you, however I don't think I would buy the cobalt over a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. I don't think it's in the same league, but the base sticker is within $600 and that's the problem I have. If it was $1500-2000 less I would consider it.
 
I love how the folks who started the import vs. domestic mudslinging in this thread are the folks who complain about the anti-domestic bias and vitriol on this site...
