Going to be changing the timing chain, crank and cam gears and tensioner on a 99 S10 w/ 76k on it in the morning. The oil was changed about 3 weeks/400 miles ago, and I wasn't anticipating this job.

I know new metal things sometimes throw off shavings in the first days they are used, so should I change it in a day or two or just wait another 2600mi?

Either way is fine. If the new parts shed any debris then the oil filter should do it's job. It really isn't necessary but if it gives you peace of mind then go ahead and do it.

Next time just say "timing chain set", that includes the crank and cam gears.

I agree with eljefino. I might run it for a few days and let the oil wash over the timing set and clean out the metals and foreign matter. Then dump the oil and change the filter.
