One of my Cooper AT3's was losing about 20 PSI per day. Took the truck into Discount Tire where they discovered the liner inside was seperating. Given the fact that all four tires showed the same weather checking and external appearance (despite regular rotations and pressure checks), Cooper was able to offer a pro rated warranty on the entire set.

I did a lot of research on tires already, and was very tempted to go with some more Coopers but ended up down a slightly different road. Given the pricing of the Coopers I was looking at (ST Maxx), I started looking at some other options such as the BFG KO2and the General AT2. In the end, the reviews for the Falken AT3W won me over and I have a set of LT285/70r17 coming in for a VERY attractive price after the pro rating, black friday rebate and the DT credit rebate.

A little heavier than I wanted, but the LT has an additional 4/32" over the p-metrics, with the 3PMS rating and full depth siping. I was particularly interested in the full depth siping as the Coopers really lost all wet traction after wearing down below 8/32" due to shallow sipes.

This is a very new brand to me, and I'm equally excited to try them out as I am apprehensive that they won't be worth the cost savings over the Coopers or BFGs. In either case, once they come in I'll try to toss some pics up and post my initial impressions.

OK, you said....
"A little heavier than I wanted..." relevant to unsprung weight? (plain old weight of tire?)

"...LT has an additional 4/32" over the p-metrics..." deeper tread than passenger car tires? Are you surprised?

",,,3PMS rating..." I do not know what this is. Please plain.

"...I am apprehensive that they won't be worth the cost savings over the Coopers or BFGs." does that mean you fear they might be too cheap and not be worth the money?

Thanks for answering and do post your tire impressions.
Two of my friends have been hosed recently via their failure to tire shop. I'm gathering info so I can guide and/or ridicule them. One of them is due to by tires for his F-150 real soon.

Cheers

Hey Buck....you shouldn't be disappointed in the at3w's. I bought them back in march (for my f150)and i still love the tires. For the money they can't be beat...so far....enjoy your new tires!

Never said anything about being surprised on tread depth, just mentioning that it is in fact significantly deeper on the LTs'. 4/32" to be exact, which is more than some manufactures.

The 3PMS is the "3 Peak Mountain Snowflake" or severe weather rating.

And you nailed the peg on the head with your last assumption.

I have had similiar issues with Coopers. Not sure how it is now but I remember that BFG had the worst warranty policy of anyone. Basically none.

Way back I bought the cheapest tires the shop had, they were close to shot in one year. I try not to be a tire snob, but some 'you get what you pay for' comes into play. Having tire problems along the way can be a hassle, depending where you are. Of course even the highest rated tire can have a bad apple, or one gets a flat.
