I read that my 2002 dakota probably came factory filled with AFT+4 for the power steering. I have a gallon of Super Tech automatic transmission fluid that says "for use on vehicles requiring former dexron III or mercon fluid". Is this fluid capable of temporarily replacing the factory fill to act as a complete flush before refilling with ATF+4? I read somewhere that mercon has a higher viscosity and could possibly burst a hose, but as I said, I would only be using it as a flush to clean out the old dark factory fill. I am not well traversed in my different transmission fluids, so if this fluid is not compatible please let me know the differences. Thanks!!!!!

If it calls for atf4 then use it. I used atf4 in an old dodge that didn't spec it and no ill effects. Maybe the slightest reduction in noise. YMMV
