My gf`s Olds (1998 88 ls) has a bad ac compressor clutch. AC blows ice cold, but the clutch is loose and rattles really bad. The part is only a bit over $90. I`ve never replaced one and was wondering how hard is it to replace, and will I need any special tools?

Let me know what he says.

Dad says that you need a special puller for it to get it off. You want to take the compressor off the engine so you can work on it.

You shouldn't have to disconnect the hoses/lines and drain the refrigerant depending on how much room you have to maneuver the compressor to the top where you can work on it.

Not fun he says... Good luck bud.

If it rattles, it probably broke on of the leaf springs.
Yes, a puller is necessary. Also a tool to hold it while you take off the retaining nut.
Depending on the car, you can sometimes get at it without compressor removal.
