Replacement belts Ariens self propelled LM

Hi guys,

The self propelled function of my Ariens lawnmower isn't working very well. Looks like I need to replace the belt.

Looked it up on Arien's site and they are selling the darn belt for $43.

Is this normal? Are there other aftermarket belts that could be used instead? I stopped at the local Sears and the guy there said that usually you need the exact fit to make the lawm mower work properly.

The guy at sears is 100% spot on, aftermarket belts work but not well and not for long. Ask me how I know.

Thanks guys.

My buddy who sold me the mower closed down his shop. He said he never had to repair one of the models he sold me. Got a couple of wrenches out and he tightened the the cable and we are back in business. He said the pulleys get a glaze on them and I could try to clean it with brake cleaner and or use some sandpaper to rough it up. Luckily we didn't need to do that.

Yep. Ariens uses obscure OEM only belt sizes on some equipment. I've run into this before.
