Replace just central A/C or both A/C and furnace?

Thanks to the proliferation of unit/coil/air handler combinations possible and the constant launch of new features with limited service history you can't really buy by brand and expect a consistent experience. If I had to replace mine I would stick with models that have had more history behind them and have the fewest bells and whistles. That's just me. I manage parts inventories for Lennox and I've seen fairly high failure rates on a variety of major components over the years. Systems are always going to be installed and maintained by third parties. None of the manufacturers maintain their own dealer networks. Referrals are key here. Sometimes the mom and pop dealers can be the best, sometimes the large franchises are very good. It's a real crap shoot.
