It seems that sometimes the dropboxes in some websites don't work:
on Both FF 7.0.1 and Chrome - on Ubuntu 10.10

Here's an example: Look at the "select year" drop box: it just drops down with an empty space...same with other boxes, at least on that website:

what can be causing this? any ideas/tips for solving it? I already searched but couldn't locate anything...

EDIT: tried it again and it works now: WTH? any ideas why this happens intermittently?

FYI, it does the same thing with FF on Mint. Seemed to occur after the last update.

That menu may well have been loading an external javascript to provide the drop-down functionality. If that external javascript was not set to load during the page's load or did not load properly (the javascript itself may have been hosted elsewhere and that server was experiencing problems. For example, I use javascripts hosted by Google all the time in sites that I design) then the menu ain't working.
