Removing a GPS tracker

I was putting fog lights in my van when I found this gem flashing under the dash. I googled the FCC ID and found it's a GPS tracker.

I want to get rid of it obviously, but I don't know if I just yank it out of there if it will kill my van. Has anyone dealt with one of these before? Why and who would put these on?
What year model is this van ? I'm curious how long it has been there .

Not that I'm wearing a tin foil hat, but I wonder what the legality of putting a tracking device on a vehicle without cause, and without consent?
Tracking devices require a Court order to be installed. (Barring exigent circumstances)
What State are you in?
Good read here:

Isn't the law specifically addressing a tracking device that is actively operating only? I suspect that no stalking or invasion of privacy law is being broken if the device's subscription is terminated/cancelled, even if the hardware remains installed in the vehicle since no tracking of movement is occurring.

In reality, this is not much different than the GM OnStar devices or LoJack trackers after the initial trial subscription expires and not renewed.

Mine was piggy-backed onto the OBDII diag port. No splicing into existing wiring harnesses. I just unplugged and pitched it.

The white connector is the factory OBD port. There's another black ODB port on the end of the braided harness that was plugged into the hush panel in it's place.

Check around on the door jambs. This same sticker is on the device.

I bought the car cash from a mom and pop used car lot. I assume it was in there from a previous life as a rental or fleet vehicle. It's still unplugged and the harness junk is in the car and I will probably leave it that way until I do some other electrical work.
