Yep! Glad they're gone too, they were messy and sometimes you'd crush the side of the oil can when slammed that baby in. They also sold cases of oil with 24 cans back then! I always knew they'd sell more oil if they packaged it 12 to a case.
The very first oil change I ever did on my first car in 1983 had those type of oil cans and I bought one of those. That was the first and last time I ever used it. The plastic bottles came out right after.
I had a few, a good old can opener and a funnel was the ticket, or I'd use it to poke 2 holes in the can and use a funnel. Those things were more trouble than they were worth.
I just bought some V8 juice for the first time in years and they finally discontinued the cans. First the lead solder leached into the acidic juice then the melamine in the plastic liners got you!
There's nothing like a half open can of juice in the fridge, uncovered, stinking the rest of the fridge up like whatever's in it.
I hated those funnels! but that's what was to be had back in the day. the empty cans were then allowed to drain into an old mayonnaise jar. after a few oil changes, my dad had an extra quart! I think he still does that actually...
Hated those things. I always used a can opener and punctured two holes on opposing sides. The spout thing made more of a mess than it was worth, especially (as noted above) when they went to cardboard cans.
