I would use a mild polish to remove the wax and clean the paint prior to Rejex. Not only will this improve the shine of the paint, it will prep the paint surface for max durability of the Rejex application.
Thanks for the reply, especially coming from a pro! I was always afraid of polish on a newer car which is garaged, I thought I should use it only if there were some issues. Would clay remove the wax? I was trying to avoid clay and polish but my old fashioned thinking is telling me clay might be the lesser of the two evils.
Not a problem at all. I'm happy to help.
Clay is only going to remove surface contaminants. I think it is a good idea to clay as part of your detailing regimen, so go right ahead and do it. If nothing else, it will make polishing and waxing go smoother.
An application of light polish will not hurt the paint at all. It will remove old wax and reduce swirl marks while enhancing gloss. One of those pre-wax cleaners or a swirl mark remover is all that's needed. Use a new applicator pad and remove with a microfiber towel. Everything mentioned is plenty safe for paint, no worries.
Thanks bretfraz! Can you suggest a good "light polish"? Something I can grab at AAP or AZ. I have everything else.
Meguiars Swirl X would be a good choice. Mothers Pre-wax cleaner will do the trick, too. Cost for each is around $6-8, available at most any auto parts store.
