Regional Only multi-location gas station chains near you?

I know Marathon Gas is HUGE ( Over 6,000 stations ) but I remember seeing one the first time about 25 years ago and always thought it was cool Marathon teamed up with STP and had STP on the signs and said STP was in the gas, Made me at least "Think " I was getting more for me money...
I wonder why more gas stations don't market this way?

Rock Hill was like that. We had Circle K's on every corner and 5 or so 7-11's as well as BP's and I don't know how many Shell stations. QT moved in and now I think we have 5 in Rock Hill and one off of every exit between Rock Hill and Charlotte, and 2 off of exit 90 right on the NC line. 1 is 500 yards west of the exit, the other is about 1500 yards east of the exit. They be determined.
OK, so I just found they have one in Walterboro, and in Hardeeville (last exit in SC before Savannah. So yes, wouldn't make any sense not to move this way.

Meijer is not only one of my favorite gas stations but also one of my favorite grocery store chains that operates in the Great lakes region. Top tier gas and a discount program depending on how much money you spend at their grocery stores and gas stations. Good deal 👍

I have a degree of pity for folks like you not being anywhere near an ocean. Sad.

Didn't know much about Marathon but they recently opened a few stations in my area. My dad did have a Zippo tape measure with the Marathon logo on it from decades ago.

Holiday used to be popular in Minnesota. They seemed to be everywhere. I haven't been that way in a while - are they still around?

Holiday was purchased by the parent company of Circle K. Many of the locations outside the Twin Cities have converted to Circle K, and new locations all feature Circle K colors if not the name. Read into that what you will. Still a solid choice regardless of brand.0

1st choice is Kwik Trip- wisconsin based but generally super consistent.

The one that has big time fallen here is Speedway. They flat out are dumps. Once upon a time they were known as Superamerica. Lineage wise they were originally 7/11 stores that rebranded when 7/11 left the market. Ironically 7/11 owns the brand again...

Casey's are around mostly in ag country.

Someone mentioned Rotten Robbie. It's kind of a weird brand. Very much generic, but possibly gives franchise owners an identity other than coming up with a name and a color scheme.

There's another weird name for a regional brand - Terrible Herbst.

OK - missed where someone mentioned it.

I've been seeing some gas stations branded as "Grand Gas". It's the kind of sign where if you saw it for the first time it seems like it would be the only one. But I can do a lookup and there are clearly different locations with the same graphics and color scheme.

I drove by one of these Grand Gas stations today. It’s strange as it’s only been open under the name for a few months, but the sign on the roof is peeling off. Looks like it was cut from a pressure sensitive label and that it’s not completely holding.

Marathon Petroleum is a huge refiner. There are quite a few Marathon gas stations in the Southeast. I suspect there all or mostly franchised. There what you would think of as a gas station when I was growing up. A couple coolers of soda and one shelf of junk food in a building about 20 x 20 at most and 4 pumps. I don't recall last time I stopped - but there is one not too far from me. Looks pretty "sus" as my kids might describe it.

This is a pretty interesting site for the National type chains, but I believe its for Gas brand - not the convenience store, because I found another site that said 7-Eleven has 8000 stores (but here the sell Sunoco gas) and Circle K has 7000, but here a bunch are actually Mobil gas. Both of those would make the list so I guess they don't count them seperately?

Anyway all the lists seem to agree the top 3 being Shell, Exxon and Marathon in that order. I was surprised that 76, Sinclair and Arco are in the top 10.

The largest regionals seem to be QT, Maverick and Kwik Trip, with Wawa, Sheetz and Pilot / FLying J popping up on some lists also

Here is the most popular station brand by state.
