Ref admits mistakes with Super Bowl calls

They were pretty horrid calls. I'm sure most Steelers fans will say they were not. Might have been the only chance for a Seahawks Super Bowl win in my Lifetime.........

What's done is done I guess. At least he had the Kahunas to admit the bad calls.

That's a coincidence L_Sludger, I watched the game in San Diego and the bud I watched it with even says we got screwed. My other bud that I bet $20 with on the game of course said the calls were fine.

I saw a lot of mistakes by alleged pro football players during that game, a couple of which ultimately led to their team's demise.

Just as I see prima donnas on the baseball field, football field, and basketball court make game-costing errors on a regular basis every week.

When we hold those overpaid babies to a higher standard than the grossly underpaid officials, then we can complain about the officiating.

Pro sports in the U.S.: one standard of pay and accountability for the players, a vastly higher standard of accountability (but not pay) for the officials.

+1; Apparently some outfielders are not required to "use two hands" when catching fly balls; a lesson taught to 5 year olds.

Anyone can make mistakes, as the saying goes. This official admits his mistake(s) and it certainly appears that he has suffered over them. Still, it's a shame that a games outcome can be so greatly affected, with no recourse. "To urr is human, to forgive is devine."

Refs are human and are bound to make bad calls in virtually every game. It sucks when it happens against your team but when it comes down to it, if your team was playing well, one or two calls shouldn't make or break a game. That Super Bowl, in particular was an ugly game and neither team played very well. The officials also made some bad calls against the Steelers in the first half.

Bad calls are like missed field goals. You don't really remember them unless they happen in the 4th quarter during a close game. Everyone wants to blame the kicker for losing the big game but not the ineffective defense or offense, who were on the field for the other 59 minutes of the game.

It is even worse in baseball, and getting more horrible.
Except, umpires are never wrong!
We have to go electronic - this could have been done 10 years ago.

Wasn't there talk a few years back about professional tennis employing some kind of electronic system to determine if balls were in or out?
