Long story short, my sound system killed my factory alternator so I got a custom made 250 amp alt for my car.
I thought my new one was defective because while driving my voltage would go from 14.4 and drop to 12.5, but then I figured out that it was actually my car's computer was messing with the alternator because the voltage would go back up if I popped it into neutral for a moment. Hondas apparently are known for not playing nice with aftermarket alts.
Guys who run high output alts on Hondas usually have to do something called an ELD bypass which is easy to do on a Honda Civic, Accord or Fit because the plug for the ELD module is in the fusebox and you can just disconnect it right there.
However, for my car that was NOT the case. On my CR-V, the ELD is actually PART OF the frickin fusebox and there's no good way to bypass it there.
So here's how I did it! The green and white wire on most Honda alt harnesses is the wire coming from the ELD. I simply cut that wire, taped off both ends, and I have a nice steady 14.4 volts all day.
It ain't much, but it's honest work!
