today i pilgrimaged to the redline synthetic oil factory in benicia, california; this was the third time i have had the pleasure of visiting their facility; i obtained two, red 4 quart jugs of rl 0W20 (thick) motor oil; this will be my "high mileage" oil; this, together with my previously obtained supply of eneos sustina 0W20 (thin) motor oil, comprises a pretty good stash of motor oil, imho; i will provide rapid- result uoa's, in the name of science.

48K!? [censored]. Don't forget, your timing belt is due at 60K. Hyundai powertrain warranty requires it at 5 years or 60K. Engine damage caused by timing belt failure after 60k is not covered under warranty.

I visited Rix Industries, that I believe was in the same industrial Park. Didnt put 2+2 together until I was flying home.

I'm not sure that engine has a timing belt.

elantra touring is the last hyundai to have a belt. it shares the 2007-2010 elantra's motor. sorry, but it is a "carry over"

No doubt. It is an absolute fact.

Learned something new! I though they were gone by 2010 early 11! Glad i waited for the 2012!

timing belt? yes. 90k replacement allowed per manual and service mgr for my operating conditions; watch for tb hardware issues(belt tensioner etc;) they are very nice, down to earth people; lots of racing photos on the walls of the office; my driving barely scratches the surface of the abilities of red line oils; i could see giant vats in the factory, mixing polyol ester base stocks with additives; as a subcontractor-delivery driver, i can justify splurging on boutique, expensive oils, for my jollies, and to provide info to bitog; my current, first run on sustina is approaching 10k miles-the first uoa will happen soon; the second uoa will be important.

More oil, less sugar

Well, my best guess LOL

congratulations GumbyJarvis on your weight loss; i was fortunate enough to have a similar success story; regarding red line i am not a shill-just a consumer with an opinion; amsoil no doubt makes good oil but their marketing is annoying-is this motor oil or is this shaklee? i think amsoil can still be found on the internet somewhere.

+1

the facilities are very clean and modern; i could see all the way to the back of the warehouse; again, there were giant mixing vats visible from the will call area; there is a zen like beauty to seeing stacks and stacks of red line oil cases; most of the real excitement takes place out on the racetracks and turnpikes of the real world where red line oil is put to use; the facility sits on a bay, with a front row view of a big fleet of mothballed world war II liberty ships; there are numerous oil refineries nearby...

Those two oils would actually be an interesting mix.

The Sustina would bring up the VI, and thin out the RL, and the RL would bring the add pack up and add POE polarity to the Sustina.

Even Red Line's lightest street oil; RL 0W-20, is not really a true 20wt oil with it's HTHSV of 3.0cP (based on independant tests), more of a light 30wt.

Hopefully they'll formulate something lighter in the not too distant future.
Even Motul 300V has recently come out with a 0W-15 (HTHSV 2.0cP, VI 155). Nevertheless Sustina 0W-20 with it's 229 VI is still lighter at 0C.

i'm not a mixologist as a matter of personal preference, especially brands; that is better left to people that know what they are doing; i do gotsta have an adequate stash, however.

i notice you mixed brands, albeit two of the very best; there has to be a lot of esters happening there; your blend seems to be entirely appropriate for your application, in my amateur opinion; keep on driving that Z28 hard! have a great motoring experience.

your posts are always incredibly informative and interesting, it goes without saying; the motul 0W15 is too thin for me; start up wear is a big deal to me; you've helped me realize that thin oil is not enough; i will always have an ultra-light foot on the gas pedal during the first twenty minutes of driving each day- even with an ultra-light oil; my climate is about as mild as it gets; a mozart violin concerto- now that is redlining- what solid music!

Of course I'm not suggesting running the new Motul 300V Sprint 0W-15. I just mentioned it because it is new and to emphasize that it's time that Red Line came out with a proper 2.6cP 0W-20 with the same VI as their 0W-40 or better.

Better still, now that the 0W-16 grade is official they could be the first to hit he market with shear proof 2.5cP high VI 0W-16 that could be used in any 20wt application.
I'd love to be on the Red Line board of directors!
