Roll up to any quick lube on a weekend evening when business is slow and the "manager" is gone. Produce a box of doughnuts, and just ask them if they could do a quick drain and replace with your own fluid. 5$ for 12 doughnuts, done. Chat'em up a little about how you're going to put a turbo on it and "chip it" while they're doing the swap. I worked at a few of these joints a million years ago. We would do anything for a little bribe.

Let us know how it goes. I'm in the same situation here with my 12 mazda3 skyactiv.

I'm between the amsoil 75w90 and the redline 70w80. I always use amsoil and love their products, but the heavy 90 weight concerns me too. I contacted amsoil and they recommend the 75w90 for me.

Do you have the redline fluid in yet? Thoughts?

No, I do not have it in yet. I wanted to get a few more super cold days under my belt so I can be better prepared to notice any differences. I'm hoping to get the MTL in before the end of january. It is just sitting on my mantle right now. The wife loves that.

Alright, definitely let us know how it goes. I spoke to Amsoil about this issue and I shared my concerns with using their 75w90.

Here is their response:

"While yes, we do not have an actual 80W oil as recommended here, we fully support the use of our 75W-90 MTG as we attested to. There are not any real-world issues to be concerned about and moreover, you are covered under our warranty for using such product and will be just fine. That MTG will perform excellent and you will have no issues. MTG meets GL-4 specification and the slight difference in viscosity will be virtually unrecognizable. There will be no additional strain or any concern for the functionality of the transmission when using our product. Trust our recommendation, you are good to go."

I went back and forth trying to decide between the Amsoil you linked and the Redline MTL. I know from this board the Amsoil is a great fluid and many feel it is much better than Redline but the uncertainty of this being a brand new, small sumped MTX has me leary of trusting by other people's experiences.

I tried searching forums for euro cars and found out there are a few that use 75W80 MTF. I couldn't really find many of those using Amsoil. Most of them just used OEM or an w80 castrol fluid. It didn't seem like many of them experimented.

I ran MTL in my ZF 5 spd in my F350 which Ford called for Mercon ATF, but ZF call for a light GL4 trans fluid, like MTL. I had really good shift quality, no clashing like with the ATF.
I recommend it. If your OEM calls for 75W80 it will be perfect.

Redline MTL has been in for a bit now and I really like it so far. I can't say it is any smoother than the OEM fluid, but everything feels "lighter" if that makes any sense.

It doesn't really make sense to me but that is the best I can describe it.

And if you have a problem with the manager, tell him to write on the ticket that the customer is suppling the lubricant and the QL will only warrant the labor.

And if he refuses, have him show you the policy where they cannot do that, or walk away and find a QL that will cooperate.

Donuts and coffee are excellent incentives as well!

I just broke down and paid the shop next door to do it and just be done with it. I'm hoping to keep this fill of Redline MTL in until 100k.

No measurable difference in MPGs so far, which is good. I was afraid the MTL might be thicker than the factory 75W-80 since some of those OEM fluids are VERY thin.
