I realize everyone will comment that its a waste of money. But I wanted to try out Redline a true "full synthetic" oil for fun and becuase im curious how it will perform. Currently the only car i have is my 2016 versa. Anyone see a reason to avoid using a specialty oil like redline in a daily driver? My usual commute is 14 miles of back roads round trip. I will probably only run it for 1 oci but i need to get it out of my system. The car only holds 4 quarts so it isn't ridiculously expensive to try it out for fun.

I used Redline 5w30 for years when I commuted for 4 years. 115 miles a day. 2009 Toyota Yaris, I averaged 43MPG with Redline, 39MPG with Mobil 1 & 36MPG with Pennzoil Conventional. Always the same Chevron fuel from the same station filled on the same day of the week. I would reset the learned memory of the ECU each time I changed the oil & tire pressures were set the same every week. For me Redline was worth the extra cost because I saved money in fuel & extended drain intervals.

I say go for it. That's why we're here,because we're oil freaks. It's fun like to said to experiment with different oils.

I've been toying with the idea of using in in the wife's Corolla for an OCI or two just for giggles and see if it does anything for the consumption issue these 1ZZ-FE's have.
Guessing there isn't much "fun" right now in Minnesota?
Any quality synthetic will be better than a semi or conventional motor oil. The boutique oils have uses for racing etc. but for a daily driver it is more than necessary for its use. Long story short is if you can get it for a decent price and plan on keeping the vehicle for long miles than the cost will offset long term with slightly better MPGs and potential of oil related issues. BITOG is split between use the cheapest stuff and use the best out there. Either way keeping up with the fluids regardless of the quality will yield many trouble free years..

I ran redline in my 2002 Toyota Tacoma with the 3.4L engine and a TRD Supercharger. I steadily increased my OCI up to a max of 12,000 miles. It was my daily driver at the time. I used 5w30 and 15w40 and saw no real benefit of one over the other. Both yielded low iron and TBN retention was excellent for an oil that was not intended for an extended drain IMHO. I haven't run any redline engine oil in anything since I owned that truck but I still use their transmission and differential fluids. I say go for it! If I was going to run Redline engine oil again I'd pair it with a Fram Ultra filter and enjoy knowing I had the best of the best to accompany my lighter wallet.

You could spend your money on worse things, so go ahead and try it. For the benefit of science, please track your fuel economy, and all other interesting observations.
I smoke cigars, not often but every now and then I get myself a very good Cuban. The Cuban experience is wonderful, but it spoils me for what remains in my humidor. I tell myself that $28 CAD for a good Cuban is too much, too rich, maybe I am cheating myself?

Go for it. But will take some time until you get results like cleaner ring pack and lower oil onsumption. Run it at least 10k miles.

If you're really feeling rich, do a used oil analysis on the current fill, then run Redline for a long interval and sample it for comparison.

IDK what the point would be, I wouldn't. I would use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy in winter just because it's cheap with rebates. I'm sure Redline is fine but for this application?
What's the incremental cost of 4 quarts of Redline over a Group III synthetic? Not All that much. You have to change your oil anyway so it's not the cost of the Redline that counts, it's only the additional cost. I guess you could tell I'm going to say go for it. Plus, someday on your deathbed, you won't be thinking. "Dang, I shoulda bought that Redline oil."

You forgot all of us compulsive buyers that will refuse to buy ANY oil until it's on rebate/goes on sale, then buy WAY more than we can use in one year!
